Accounts Payable Associate
Finance - Columbia, Maryland (Hybrid)

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Accounts Payable Associate to join our Finance & Accounting team. As the sole person responsible for managing and processing accounts payable, this role is critical to ensuring timely, accurate, and well-documented disbursements across the company. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, the ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and capable of handling a high volume of transactions with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Own the full-cycle accounts payable process, including receiving, coding, verifying, and processing invoices in a timely manner.
  • Manage vendor relationships: maintain accurate vendor records, respond to inquiries, and resolve discrepancies professionally and promptly.
  • Ensure proper approvals and compliance with internal policies and procedures for all disbursements.
  • Prepare and process weekly payment runs (ACH, checks, wire transfers) and ensure accurate posting to the general ledger.
  • Maintain AP aging reports and reconcile vendor statements regularly.
  • Assist with monthly close processes, including AP accruals and account reconciliations.
  • Partner with internal departments to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee expense reimbursements.
  • Support the Controller with audit requests and other ad hoc financial projects.
  • Continuously assess and improve AP processes for efficiency and internal controls.

Experience/ Skills Required
  • 2+ years of experience in accounts payable or general accounting; experience in a small to mid-sized company preferred.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and AP best practices.
  • Proficient in accounting systems (preferably NetSuite) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
