The Administrator of the newly established Science and Mathematics Academic Resource and Tutoring (SMART) Center will play a central role in advancing student success across the College of Science. This is a unique opportunity to build and lead a dynamic academic support operation that directly influences student achievement in foundational STEM disciplines.
 
What You’ll Do
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of undergraduate and graduate tutors across math and science subjects
  • Design and implement evidence-based tutoring strategies and academic support structures
  • Provide direct tutoring support as needed, maintaining connection to the student experience
  • Collect, analyze, and report on student engagement and outcomes to inform continuous improvement
  • Partner with faculty and staff across the College of Science to align tutoring services with course needs and learning goals

About Us
The College of Science at Purdue in Indianapolis teaches a wide-range of courses in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Computer Science.  The SMART Center administrator will will provide direction for shaping a comprehensive drop-in tutor resource center for Purdue in Indianapolis Students.
 
What We're Looking For
Education and Experience Required:
  • Master’s degree in mathematics
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience including:
    • Leadership and program management experience in academic support, learning centers, or tutoring programs, preferably within STEM disciplines and an urban higher-education context
    • Experience supervising and developing undergraduate and graduate student employees, including recruiting, training, scheduling, mentoring, and performance evaluation
    • Experience designing, assessing, and improving tutoring or academic support services using data and learning outcomes
  • A combination of education and experience may also be required
 
Skills Required:
  • Strong understanding of STEM curricula and evidence‑based tutoring and learning support strategies, particularly for foundational and gateway courses
  • Ability to support and engage a wide range of student populations, including first‑generation and international students
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, including the ability to work with faculty and campus partners and manage tutoring technologies, budgets, and assessment tools

The anticipated annual salary for this position is between $56,112 to $60,600 commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience. The final salary offer will be determined based on a variety of factors, including equity, available budget, educational background, and relevant experience.
