Brief Job Description
Provide direct transitional academic advising and enrollment support to undergraduate, transfer students from area community colleges. Aids prospective students in pre-enrollment academic planning and advisement, major selection, and application requirements that support the SUNY seamless transfer initiative. This individual will identify and work with prospective students at area community colleges who are planning to transfer to SUNY Buffalo State. This will include regular visits to area community college campuses to assist with pre-enrollment advisement. This position will support the Transfer Partnership programs working to support the transition of prospective students who do not meet initial admissions criteria. The incumbent will also work closely with the Academic Standards office to transition students placed on academic probation or dismissal to SUNY Erie as part of the seamless transfer program.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field.
- Experience working in a higher education setting with undergraduates in an academic advising or student success capacity.
- Demonstrated experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
- Experience working with students with disabilities, first-generation college students, nontraditional students, and/or international students.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to develop a thorough understanding of general education and programmatic requirements, college policies, and campus resources/services.
Preferred Qualifications | Familiarity with data management systems (e.g., Banner, Banner Admin pages, Navigate, Slate, and Degree Works).
