Job Summary
Under supervision of the Assistant Director for Recruitment, the Senior Admissions Counselor will contribute to the overall recruitment efforts for the Office of Admissions by managing a recruitment territory and planning and implementing activities for attracting and matriculating new students to the University of Utah. This position will also manage special projects, such as onboarding and training new admissions counselors, college fair management, assisting with recruitment travel planning and other special projects and administrative tasks as assigned.

The senior admissions counselor will work alongside the recruitment team in the Emma Eccles Jones Welcome Center in the Gardner Commons building, a state-of-the-art building located in the heart of our campus.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee a recruitment territory, conducting visits to high schools, community colleges, college fairs, and participating in both on- and off-campus recruitment events.
  • Build and sustain productive relationships with high school counselors, community organizations, national networks, and other key stakeholders to enhance outreach efforts.
  • Assess and determine student eligibility by evaluating admission applications in alignment with institutional guidelines.
  • Advise prospective students and their families on the admissions process, scholarship opportunities, and financial aid resources.
  • Collaborate with assistant directors to design, implement, and assess recruitment strategies within the assigned territory to align with the institution’s enrollment goals.
  • Act as an admissions liaison to internal departments and external partners, fostering cooperative relationships.
  • Support human resources functions within the admissions team, including participation in hiring committees, staff training, and retention initiatives.
  • Mentor and guide entry-level admissions counselors, fostering professional growth and development.
  • Represent the University of Utah in both group presentations and individual meetings with a diverse range of prospective students.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned to support the admissions team and institutional objectives.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years’ related experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

Preferences
  • At least two years of experience in higher education admissions (or equivalent), including managing a recruitment territory and overseeing special projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of current trends in admissions, recruitment, scholarships, and financial aid.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively engage large and diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, with particular sensitivity to the needs and expectations of prospective students.
  • Proven ability to analyze data and make informed decisions regarding special projects and strategic areas of focus.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills, with the capacity to manage competing deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated human relations and communication skills, essential for team collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experienced in mentoring entry-level admissions counselors and supporting efforts to achieve enrollment goals.
  • Skilled in effectively communicate with a variety of populations
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a proven capacity to navigate and resolve challenging situations.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficient in using CRM systems and other recruitment-related tools and platforms, with demonstrated ease in system navigation and data management.
