Job Summary
The Admissions Counselor contributes to all aspects of the Admissions process, including but not limited to: traveling to recruit students and represent the College; reviewing applications for admission; interviewing prospective students; leading public presentations to promote the College; building relationships with high school counselors and community based organizations; organizing and executing recruitment and yield initiatives both on and off-campus; and partnering with colleagues across the College. All Admissions staff are expected to contribute to Bowdoin’s commitment to diversity and inclusion and to clearly articulate the values and benefits of a liberal arts education. An admissions counselor is expected to contribute to projects being executed across the office and is responsible for independently managing projects as assigned.

  • Reviewing applications and making admissions recommendations as well as participating as a member of the Admissions Committee.
  • Recruiting students through travel, organizing and executing recruitment programming on- and off-campus, and serving as a resource for students, families, and school counselors/CBOs.
  • Supporting office programs, projects, and initiatives seeking to recruit and enroll students (e.g. daily tasks/coverage, events, special programs, and projects managed by others).
  • Managing own special project areas, as assigned. May manage student workers or volunteers in executing project area(s).

COMPENSATION
  • The hiring range for this position is expected to be: $55,800.00-58,500

Education/Skills Requirements
A bachelor’s degree is required. Excellent organizational skills and exceptional oral and written communication skills; strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities; understanding of the American education and college admissions process; Ability to interpret data and reports and quickly synthesize large amounts of information; ability to effectively direct and organize program activities; independently manage tasks from conceptualization to completion; exceptional presentation skills; proficiency in a variety of common software programs (Microsoft Office suite, Zoom, Google); ability to engage prospective students and families from diverse backgrounds.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
This is an entry level position, no prior admissions experience required. Enthusiasm and appreciation for the benefits and values of a liberal arts education is highly desirable.

Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to comply with the College’s current Motor Vehicle Policy. Willingness to travel and to work extended hours during peak periods.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications in this posting to be considered for hire.
Standard Work Days and Hours
Typical hours in office: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5 PM.
Frequent evening and weekend hours, beyond 40 hours a week, especially November to April.
Periodically required to provide coverage on Saturdays for on-campus programming. Exempt positions require the time commitment necessary to complete the essential duties of the position.
