Job Description  |
Eastern Shore Community College is a member of the Virginia Community College System. The College serves the residents of Accomack County and Northampton County as a two-year institution of higher learning.  Operating under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Eastern Shore Community College Board, the college is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the two counties and the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation.

The Adult Education Specialist works under the general guidance of the Regional Program Manager to support the coordination, data management, and daily operations of the Adult Education program. This position serves as the primary front-line customer service contact for individuals entering or calling the Adult Education office, providing information, assistance, and referrals in a professional and welcoming manner.

The Specialist has primary responsibility for Adult Education data systems and state reporting functions, including accurate entry, validation, maintenance, disaggregation, and reporting of data in LACES and related systems in accordance with Virginia Department of Education requirements. The position independently compiles and prepares student, assessment, and performance data for state reporting, grant documentation, monitoring requirements, and internal program use, recognizing the direct impact of data accuracy on program funding and compliance.

In conjunction with the Regional Program Manager, the Specialist supports student intake, assessment, placement, CASAS eTesting, GED® testing initiatives, and the GED Accelerated Program. Additional responsibilities include tracking student progress; preparing required reports; disseminating data-related information to staff; maintaining program schedules and records; supporting instructor onboarding and professional development; assisting with outreach and recruitment activities; and providing administrative support related to purchasing, travel, and program review processes. Duties are performed with a high degree of accuracy, organization, confidentiality, and independence within established policies and procedures.

Special Assignments  | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications  | Experience working in a computer-based administrative or program support environment, with responsibility for maintaining accurate records and meeting deadlines. Proficiency with data entry, data validation, and data management systems, and the ability to work independently within established procedures. Ability to compile, analyze, and prepare data reports to support state reporting, grant documentation, monitoring requirements, and internal program needs. Ability to understand and follow policies, procedures, and externally mandated reporting requirements, including those related to compliance, data integrity, and confidentiality. Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and the ability to learn and use specialized systems such as LACES and other program platforms. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet required timelines. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to share data-related and compliance-related information accurately. Demonstrated customer service skills and the ability to serve as a professional front-line contact while handling sensitive information.

Additional Considerations  | Experience supporting education, workforce, or human services programs requiring state or federally mandated data reporting is preferred. Experience working with grant-funded programs, including data tracking and compliance documentation, is preferred. Willingness and ability to obtain required system training, certifications, or credentials as needed (training provided).
