Job Description
New River Community College is a two-year state institution of higher education operating under a state-wide system of 23 community colleges. The college is in Virginia’s New River Valley, which is also home to two public universities, and which has earned widespread recognition for the quality of life offered to residents. The Dublin campus and Christiansburg site provide modern, well-equipped facilities for the college’s career and technical education programs as well as for the college transfer programs. Approximately 4,000 students comprise the student body.

Duties: Assist prospective students from the point of inquiry to class completion. Support students through their academic and/or workforce-credentialing journey. Utilize available student resources (food pantry, loaner computers, transportation, etc.). Collaborate with the development of marketing and informational materials for student recruitment. Evaluate the effectiveness of developmental programs and make recommendations for improvement. Provide guidance and support for both students and staff. Actively participate with community outreach events. Contribute to the success of the Adult Learning Center team.
Special Assignments | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications | Knowledge of barriers to educational success and a desire to help others reach their educational goals. Demonstrated ability to coach students and collaborate effectively with instructors on course content and instructional strategies. Experience working independently and as part of a team. Strong ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Excellent organizational skills. Proficiency in the use of technology, such as Microsoft Office. Desire to learn and grow as professional needs arise.
Additional Considerations | Additional factors that may be considered include: Work experience in a higher education setting or counseling or academic coaching. Work experience assessing the skills, needs, and interests of adult learners. Bachelor’s degree.
