About the Role

The Analytics Engineer reports to the VP of Analytics Engineering and is responsible for building, optimizing, and scaling the data transformation and semantic reporting infrastructure across the Abre Platform. Working at the intersection of product, data engineering, and business intelligence, you will transform raw data into scalable, tested data models that power internal analytics, out-of-the-box client dashboards, and AI-driven reporting tools. Your work will directly enable standardized data solutions and consistent analytics across all customer accounts.

Key Responsibilities

Data Modeling, Analytics Development, & Automation (75%)

Partner with Product, Software, and Data teams to translate business logic into scalable, well-documented data models.
Design, build, and maintain efficient dbt models and semantic layers that standardize metrics across the Abre Platform.
Develop out-of-the-box client-facing dashboards and support productized AI reporting tools.
Implement automated data validation, testing, and monitoring (e.g., dbt tests) to ensure end-to-end data integrity.
Maintain clear documentation for data models, business definitions, and lineage.

Data Warehouse & Architecture Optimization (15%)

Collaborate with Data Engineers to structure analytics data warehouse assets for performance, security, and scalability.
Implement best practices for version control, CI/CD, data governance, and data security.
Provide technical guidance on SQL performance tuning, data modeling patterns, and analytics best practices.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement (10%)

Work with client-facing and product teams to refine analytics tooling based on user feedback.
Identify opportunities to reduce manual data tasks through automation and standard reporting frameworks.
Stay current with modern data stack trends, tools, and AI-driven analytics workflows.

Required Skills and Qualifications

3+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or BI Engineering.
Expertise in advanced SQL and data modeling techniques (e.g., dimensional modeling, Kimball).
Strong proficiency with modern data transformation tools (e.g., dbt) and orchestration tools (e.g., Dagster, Airflow).
Experience with software development workflows, including Git, version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).
Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Power BI) and modern/AI reporting tools (e.g., ThoughtSpot, conversational BI).
Proficiency in Python or R for data processing and automation.
Strong problem-solving skills with a track record of translating complex technical logic into business insights.

Preferred Qualifications

First-hand experience working with K-12 education data or Ed-Tech platforms.
Familiarity with education data interoperability standards (e.g., Ed-Fi, OneRoster).
