This position will analyze, document, install, develop, and maintain operating system software including utility software and data-management automations. Provides technical support to users concerning system software and utilities.

The API Developer at Educational Outreach and Student Services will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining API connections that facilitate integration between our systems and the Enterprise services. This role will collaborate with internal and external cross-functional teams to ensure API solutions meet the highest standards of usability, security, and performance.

This is a full-time, in-person position with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Working Environment:
  • Knowledge and application of the theory, principles and practices of systems design and applications programming.
  • Knowledge of the functions and capabilities of computer operating systems, software programming applications, and databases.
  • Knowledge of computer security procedures.
  • Skill in the use of programming languages and automation software specific to the assignment. Skill in both verbal and written communication.
  • Work collaboratively across various departments within the University as well as with diverse populations and groups
  • Projects follow a typical software development lifecycle wherein you will work with stakeholders as well as the internal tech team to plan, document, develop, and test software implementations thoroughly and effectively as a team.

Essential Duties:
  • Revises, enhances, updates, and deploys vendor-supplied systems software to optimize digital systems.
  • Research user requests and specific technical software to determine efficient and effective solutions.
  • Implements system backup procedures and participates in recovery operations in the event of destruction of all or part of the operating system or other system components.
  • Reviews, tests and evaluates new versions of systems and related software. Converts software specification requirements into appropriate programming languages including but not limited to JavaScript and Python.
  • Participates in the planning, installation, and implementation of system interfaces using APIs.
  • Analyzes software specifications for completeness and compatibility with operating system capabilities.
  • Reviews and documents software failures and takes corrective action as directed.
  • Ensures the security and integrity of all systems and data. Recommends policies and procedures for the area.
  • Works closely with data, retrieving and analyzing output to find patterns and create solutions.
 
Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working with RESTful and SOAP based APIs.
  • Knowledge of SFTP.
  • Previous experience with Airtable, Jira, or other project management tools.
  • Experience using SQL or any related database management language.
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python and JavaScript.
  • Evidence of previous experience troubleshooting and resolving issues.
  • Experience testing applications using standardized methods such as unit testing and integration testing.
  • Evidence of effective professional written and verbal communications.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining strong, effective, and collaborative working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in work that requires attention to detail and efficiency.
  • Experience providing technical support to end users.
  • Adaptability and experience with learning new technologies and tools for different projects.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
