Job Summary
AMSTI is the Alabama State Department of Education’s (ALSDE) initiative to improve STEM education in Alabama so that all students develop the skills necessary forsuccess in post-secondary studies and the workforce. Established in 1994, ASIM nowserves as the secondary science component of AMSTI.

The ASIM/Secondary Science Specialist position is responsible for supporting schools by providing professional learning, instructional materials, and educator support (through coaching) needed toimplement the current Alabama Course of Study Standards: Science in grades 6-12(including but not limited to biology, chemistry, and/or physics).

Regional assignments (schools/districts and grade levels/content areas) will be based on regional needs and are subject to change based on regional data.

Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree in a related field Valid Alabama Teachers’ Certification in Secondary Science (general science preferred) Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in an Alabama public middle and/or high school

Preferred Qualifications  | Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university (preferred science or science education) Five years of teaching experience in an Alabama public middle and/or high school Knowledge of and experience with AMSTI or ASIM program Teacher leader or instructional coaching experience
