Assessment K-8
Ignite Reading teaches kids to read.
Today, 67% of students and 82% of low-income students can’t read at grade level by the end of third grade. That’s when you are supposed to go from learning to read to reading to learn. It’s America’s number one education crisis and we know how to fix it.

Ignite teaches kids to read by providing 15 minutes a day of 1:1 virtual reading instruction. We focus on the reading fundamentals (letters, phonics, and sight words) kids need to master so they can decode a sentence. Our program accelerates reading progress 2.4x and we are disrupting how schools think about reading instruction.

Ignite launched our first school implementation in the fall of 2021. Sixteen months later, we will have grown our number of schools and students 35x.

Ignite Reading is a mission-driven public benefit corporation. We believe we can do well for our team members and shareholders while we solve one of the nation’s biggest challenges. We believe we will be more successful with a diverse team and are seeking candidates who have lived experience related to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Your Role
Ignite Reading is looking for contractors to support assessing Grade 1 students on a nationally normed foundational skills assessment. In collaboration with school partners, these contractors would be responsible for traveling to the key school partners, coordinating and communicating with school staff and assessing students at each school. We are piloting this role for the middle of the year (January-February). Depending upon budget and performance, this role has the potential to extend to an additional engagement at the end of the school year (May-June) and potentially into future school years. We are looking for people who live in Massachusetts or Albany, NY.

As a DIBELS Assessment Administrator contracted by Ignite Reading, your primary responsibility will be to travel to various schools in Massachusetts and administer the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) assessments to the students enrolled in our program. Your role is crucial in helping us gauge student progress and tailor our instruction to their needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment Administration: Travel to assigned schools within Massachusetts to administer DIBELS assessments to K-8 students enrolled in Ignite Reading. Follow established assessment protocols to ensure consistency and reliability.
  • Scheduling and Coordination: Collaborate with school staff and Ignite Reading's team to schedule assessment sessions, ensuring minimal disruption to the school's daily routines.
  • Data Collection: Accurately record and maintain assessment data for each student. Ensure the security and confidentiality of student information and assessment results.
  • Communication: Provide clear and concise instructions to students during the assessment process. Address any questions or concerns raised by students or school staff.
  • Quality Assurance: Follow standardized assessment procedures to maintain the integrity and reliability of the assessment data. Report any irregularities or issues encountered during assessments.
  • Reporting: Compile and submit assessment data and results to Ignite Reading in a timely and organized manner. Generate reports as needed to track student progress.

Job Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially when working with students in an educational setting.
  • Must be located in the metropolitan area of Albany, NY or the state of Massachusetts
  • Flexibility in working with different schools and students within Massachusetts during the academic day.
  • Strong/advanced knowledge of the science of reading and foundational skills
  • Knowledge of the Amplify MClass assessment or other foundational skills assessments
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently and follow established assessment protocols.
