Job Description:
Barrett Honors College at ASU is the premier honors college in the country with a dynamic Student Services division known for individual attention and service to students. Barrett at the Tempe campus is seeking an Assistant Director who will work in a team environment, and create and implement innovative student engagement programming, design a strategic plan for Barrett Off Campus Students, design unique programs for students that highlight Barrett's value pairs (Courage & Curiosity, Belonging & Community, and Agency and Leadership), supervise professional staff, teach courses for student leaders, oversee the Barrett Mentoring Program, direct the Peer Academic Leaders program, help create and implement the Barrett Explores Travel Programs, and provide general leadership to the Barrett student community. The position will report to the Director of Barrett Student Services and will support initiatives, special projects and objectives related to the unique honors experience. Under general supervision, this successful candidate will work within a budget and ensure that program goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with priorities, time limitations, funding limitations or other specifications.
Essential Duties:
- Continue to enhance a cohesive residential community with a strong identity that supports Barrett's mission and values
- Working with the director to supervise, train, and evaluate professional staff
- Create a strategic plan around student programming activities for students living off campus including, but not limited to: wellness, academic, community service, social, cultural, and college signature programs
- Design, execute, and chaperone the travel programs related to the Barrett Explores Travel Platform, including trips around Arizona, National Parks, Class Connections, and Great American Cities
- Design programs that highlight Barrett's value pairs and enhance Barrett's mission statement
- Oversee the Barrett Mentoring Program (BMP) and teach one credit courses that support BMP which includes training students, updating the curriculum with support from the director, updating the Canvas shells, marketing the program to students, training the instructors, etc.
- Direct and manage the Peer Academic Leaders (PALS) program which includes supervising student leaders, providing training, supporting student events, providing newsletter content, etc.
- Direct students, parents and staff in navigating a wide scope of Student Services related resources
- Mentor and develop student leaders
- Provide regular reports and updates to Student Services leadership
- Oversee student employee work, including work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluate performance; motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance
- Contribute content to the website and other social media outlets of the college
- Employ effective marketing and promotion strategies that maximize a student community experience
- Work within a specified budget
- Collaborate with university partners to develop and execute ASU and Barrett initiatives
- Serve on relevant committees
- Participate in signature college events (Homecoming, Family Weekend, etc.)
- Maintain and establish relationships with organizations and external community groups
Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm with some nights and weekends
Salary: $57,900 to $62,000 per year; DOE

Desired Qualifications:
- Evidence of a Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred
- Experience in an institution of higher education
- Experience working in a residential college setting
- Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in working with honors programs
- Experience in mentoring and developing student groups and student leaders
- Demonstrated knowledge of student services and resources
- Experience with creating, planning and implementing student social, professional development and academic programs
- Experience working with travel programs
- Experience in developing strategic plans
- Experience in managing multiple projects that require attention to detail
- Experience working within a desired budget and showing flexibility and resourcefulness using budgets
- Experience in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Working Environment:
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (60%); frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time, walk moderate distances, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds to perform work (40%).
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions. Calculator, telephone, computer (monitor, keyboard and mouse), printer, fax and copier. This position receives regular review of objectives
- Some nights and weekends required to perform duties
- This position is based on the Tempe campus and requires in-person work, with the potential for a hybrid schedule following a probationary period
