Primary Purpose | Under general direction conducts applied business and social science research and analysis to support the Executive Director of the Center for Business and Policy Research.
Essential Functions | Oversees implementation and management of applied research projects across multiple sectors, including economic development, labor markets, land use, and public policy. Coordinates project tasks, deliverables, timelines, and staff assignments. Engages with regional partners and stakeholders to ensure project alignment and impact. Supervises research staff, graduate interns, and undergraduate interns, including mentoring, quality control, and professional development. Leads and contributes to the production of written deliverables such as reports, policy briefs, presentations, and grant proposals. Conducts or supports advanced quantitative and qualitative research, including use of economic modeling, data visualization, and spatial analysis. Supports strategic planning and institutional development for the CBPR in alignment with regional initiatives. Participates in outreach activities including community engagement, working groups, and public presentations. Assists in managing Center operations and administration, including proposal development and grant reporting. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications | Master’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, Urban Planning, or related social science or quantitative discipline. Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in applied research, policy analysis, or project management.
Preferred Qualifications | Ph.D. in Economics, Public Policy, or related field. At least five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in applied research, policy analysis, or project management. Familiarity with California’s regional economic development landscape, including experience with local governments or regional planning organizations. Experience with grant writing and contract administration. Demonstrated expertise in applied economic and policy research. Experience managing interdisciplinary teams and complex projects. Strong writing skills and ability to communicate technical findings to diverse audiences. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); statistical software such as R, Stata, or Python; and mapping/visualization tools such as ArcGIS or Tableau. Experience with CRM software. Experience with API integration. Familiarity with economic impact or forecasting models (e.g., REMI, IMPLAN) preferred. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment. Proven ability to build relationships with public agencies, nonprofits, or private sector partners. Positive attitude. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work primarily performed in a standard office environment.
Work performed during normal business hours, additional hours may be required to meet business need or deadlines.
Occasional travel to meet with clients, collect research data, and/or conferences expected.
Position is located on Stockton or Sacramento campus, and will be determined by the Director prior to an offer of employment.
Valid driver’s license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University’s fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range | $90,000 - $101,000; We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
