Description | The Center for Academic Excellence is a department within Hofstra University aimed at improving undergraduate student success and retention through its comprehensive academic support services and its partnership with various campus departments. Reporting to the Dean of the Center for Academic Excellence, the Assistant Director of Academic Success Programs initiates essential engagement with students to proactively support them through academic or other adjustments which may impact students’ academic performance or other aspects of their college experiences. Responsibilities include creating, coordinating, and implementing outreach plans for students considered to be “at-risk” based on various performance indicators, meeting with students and creating academic success plans, supporting students’ academic growth via academic skill building meetings, and collaborating and consulting with colleagues in other campus departments and offices.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Meets with students to develop personalized success and academic probation plans based on students’ unique circumstances and tracks progress towards their academic goals. Collects, evaluates, records and manages all information pertaining to student cases that come in through the EAB Navigate system (Alerts and Mid-Semester Advisories), as well as referrals from other University departments. Tracks student compliance with academic probation recommendations and follows up as needed. Communicates and collaborates with CAE success advisors to assist in implementation of student success plans. Tracks and evaluates data trends regarding high-risk variables for the undergraduate student population. Communicates and collaborates with other University departments to expedite resolution of students’ academic problems. Provides students with referrals to other support services within the University or to community agencies when appropriate. Researches, designs, develops and implements workshops aimed at enhancing students’ academic and personal success. Serves on University-wide committees as needed, including the Administrative Judicial Board for the Office of Community Standards and participates in all training programs. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications | Master’s Degree in higher education or a field of study that enhances the individual’s ability to assist at-risk students in an academic environment required. At least four years of professional experience working with college students in academic advising, academic support programs, or other related fields. Must possess knowledge in effective learning strategies, assessment tools, motivational techniques, and study skills development. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, process confidential information with discretion and adhere to FERPA guidelines. Capacity and desire to interact with individuals of varying social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team, and to maintain positive professional relationships. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and possess outstanding written and oral communication skills. Strong quantitative and analytical skills and comfort level with appropriate technologies (e.g., Microsoft Excel). Excellent conflict resolution skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail, and ability to gather and synthesize information from a variety of sources to make knowledgeable recommendations to best serve the students. This position requires a flexible work schedule, including early mornings, late evenings and/or occasional weekends to support extended student services.
Preferred Qualifications | Experience working as part of a case management support team preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of online student tracking systems and database management.

Salary/Salary Range | $64,350

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
