Duties and Responsibilities 
The Assistant Director for New-Student Advising Onboarding and Education leads the development, implementation, and assessment of educational resources and programming to support the academic onboarding and success of first- and second-year students. This role focuses on building scalable, engaging, and accessible advising content—including online videos, modules, orientation presentations, and digital learning tools—for both new students and continuing first and second year students. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with advising leadership, operations, and training teams to ensure a cohesive and effective advising education experience across students’ early academic career.

Educational Resource Development and Advising Onboarding Design and manage advising-related educational content (e.g., orientation modules, online videos, academic advising guides, interactive tools) for new first-year student onboarding. Oversee creation of sustained educational content for continuing first- and second-year students to support academic planning, degree progression, and engagement with academic advising. Coordinate implementation of educational materials into orientation, registration, and advising workflows. Collaborate with the Associate Director for Operations to integrate onboarding materials into summer registration plans and special population onboarding processes (e.g., honors students, student-athletes). Partner with the Assistant Director for Training and Development to ensure consistency between student-facing materials and advisor training documentation. Partner with the Assistant Director for Academic Support and Assessment to regularly evaluate content effectiveness, revise based on student feedback and engagement data, and stay current on trends in digital learning and student success strategies. 

Leadership and Supervision Supervise a team of 2–3 academic advisors, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and ongoing support. May also supervise graduate and undergraduate student workers as needed. Provide leadership within the advising team on onboarding and educational strategies. Support collaborative work culture and uphold the mission and values of the institution.

Academic Advising and Student Engagement
Serves as the primary liaison to targeted student population, supporting them with tailored advising and onboarding programming. Advise undergraduate students individually and in groups regarding academic planning, course selection, degree requirements, and university policies. Assist students in building meaningful academic and co-curricular plans aligned with the Jesuit tradition. Teach one or more sections of the First-Year Seminar course. Present advising workshops and represent the department at student-facing events such as orientation, open houses, and academic fairs. Provide specialized advising support for students on academic probation or in distress, referring as needed to campus resources. Serve as department liaison to assigned academic units to ensure alignment on advising content and communication. Participate in Student Academic Services signature programs, events, and activities, including but not limited to: Orientation, New Student Convocation, finals week proctoring, and Undergraduate Admission open houses. Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience  | Master’s degree and at least three years’ of related experience.
Qualifications  | Master’s degree and three years of related experience. Experience working in an education or higher education setting with direct student interactions. Strong interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team of committed academic advisors and student affairs professionals. Ability to help students develop an appreciation understanding of the Jesuit approach to education and the Core curriculum. Must be able to work some evening and weekend hours in a fast-paced environment.
Certificates/Credentials/Licenses  | Master’s degree and three years of related experience
Computer Skills  | Technical proficiency in use of computers, software applications such as Microsoft 365 Office suite. Proficiency in student information systems; Oracle PeopleSoft is preferred. Proficiency in data reporting tools, dashboards, and information retrieval systems; familiarity with Microsoft PowerBI preferred. Proficiency in student success platforms and case management systems; familiarity with EAB Navigate360 preferred.
