 I. JOB OVERVIEW 
Job Description Summary:  | The Assistant Director for Strategic Initiatives and Engagements plays a key role in advancing university-wide strategic initiatives and ensuring alignment with GW’s institutional priorities and mission. Reporting to the Executive Director for Strategic Initiatives and Engagements, this position provides project management, coordination, and analytical support for a portfolio of high-impact initiatives led by the Office of the President.

Working collaboratively with academic and administrative partners, the Assistant Director helps drive effective planning, execution, and reporting of cross-divisional projects—supporting the university’s Strategic Framework and other presidential priorities. This position combines elements of project management, stakeholder engagement, and institutional coordination to promote excellence in execution and progress tracking.

Responsibilities:

Project Management and Coordination Support the planning and implementation of university-wide initiatives managed by the Office of the President. Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, deliverables, and progress reports. Coordinate project meetings, track action items, and ensure timely completion of deliverables. Monitor key project milestones and escalate risks or challenges to the Executive Director. Assist in aligning projects with the university’s Strategic Framework and institutional priorities. 
Stakeholder Engagement Partner with internal stakeholders, including academic leaders, administrative units, and cross-functional teams, to facilitate collaboration and communication. Support the organization of working groups, steering committees, and cross-divisional meetings related to strategic initiatives. Prepare meeting materials, presentations, and executive summaries for senior leadership review.

Analysis and Reporting Support the development of project dashboards and progress reports to track and communicate outcomes. Conduct basic research, data collection, and analysis to inform planning and decision-making. Synthesize information from across units to provide clear, concise project updates for the Office of the President. Maintain documentation and shared resources related to strategic initiatives and project management processes.

Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:  | Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:  | Experience managing complex, cross-functional projects involving multiple stakeholders, preferably within a university or higher education setting. Strong working knowledge of project management methodologies and technologies, including experience using project management software and collaboration tools. Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, concise materials for diverse audiences, including senior leadership. Demonstrated understanding of the structure, culture, and operations of educational institutions. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving project needs in a fast-paced environment. Proven ability to work collaboratively across multiple constituents and build productive working relationships. Experience supporting senior leaders or executive-level initiatives, including preparing briefing materials, presentations, or reports. Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and translate it into actionable insights.
