Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The Assistant Director of Career Services provides operational leadership and oversight for two dynamic, student-centered Career Connect Centers that serve both academic and workforce development populations at Reynolds Community College and CCWA. This role is responsible for overseeing daily operations, supervising staff, coordinating programming, and integrating career development services across academic and workforce pathways. The Assistant Director plays a key role in fostering student success through personalized support, employer engagement, and data-informed decision-making.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Operational Leadership & Career Center Oversight

Lead daily operations of the Career Connect Centers, ensuring alignment with the college’s mission, vision, and strategic goals. Oversee the Clothing Closet, including inventory management, staffing, and student access processes. Collaborate with the Director to implement career development initiatives using tools such as Lightcast Career Coach, Strong Interest Inventory, Handshake, and Network2WorkRVA. Promote a student experience that fosters belonging, purpose, and career confidence.
Staff Supervision & Team Development

Supervise a team including one Employer Relations Specialist, two administrative staff, and student workers. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement through coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development. Support hiring, onboarding, and training in partnership with Human Resources. Implement cross-training strategies to enhance team capacity across academic and workforce services.
Academic Integration & Faculty Collaboration

Partner with faculty and academic leadership to embed career readiness and experiential learning into curricula. Coordinate classroom workshops, employer panels, and micro-internships aligned with academic outcomes. Support Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) initiatives and transitions between workforce and academic programs.
Career Center Programming

Plan and evaluate major events such as career fairs, hiring events, and employer spotlights in collaboration with the Employer Relations Specialist. Ensure delivery of core services: Career Exploration & Planning, Career Readiness, Experiential Learning, and Employer Engagement.
Technology Integration & Data-Driven Decision-Making

Manage career services platforms including Handshake, Lightcast Career Coach, and Monday.com. Analyze data to improve services, support strategic goals, and ensure accountability.
Collaboration, Outreach & Institutional Service

Collaborate with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and CCWA to provide holistic student support. Build employer relationships to expand work-based learning and employment opportunities. Promote services and events in partnership with Marketing. Serve on institutional committees and engage in professional development to stay current with trends in career services and workforce development.
Special Assignments  | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications  |
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Bachelor’s degree in counseling, higher education, workforce development, human services, or a related field. Minimum of five years of progressive experience in career services, student success, or workforce development programming. Proven ability to supervise and coach teams, coordinate multi-functional services, and manage daily operations effectively. Strong knowledge of career development tools, labor market data, and student engagement strategies. Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with a student-centered and equity-focused approach. Proficiency in data-informed decision-making and experience with Career Services platforms such as Handshake, Navigate, and Lightcast Career Coach.
