Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Assistant Director of Enrollment Communication will focus on telling impactful stories around Wright State initiatives and activities that build interest, enhance reputation and support enrollment at Wright State. The Assistant Director will play a lead role on the Enrollment Communications team in the creation, implementation, and execution of strategic communications with prospective students, high school counselors, and community-based organizations, including email, print, web, and other media. The Assistant Director will work to build awareness of Wright State and ensure the university’s communication plans build affinity among prospective students all while driving students towards enrollment. The Assistant Director must consider best practice in communication efforts regarding populations such as rural students, first-generation students, transfer students, and additional specialized pipelines as well as traditional high school students. The Assistant Director will prioritize the student experience and provide exceptional customer service.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of combined experience in admissions, enrollment management, copy writing or technical writing, management, training, marketing or similar fields
  • Experience with Slate or similar CRM
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Essential Functions and percent of time:
Content Development and Execution (55%)
  • Implements and maintains a comprehensive multi‐channel communication strategy and editorial content calendar that focuses on informing, influencing, and engaging prospective students across all student segments and all stages of the enrollment cycle.
  • Serves as copywriter for all electronic communications in accordance with editorial standards and style guides, university policies and branding guidelines, and industry best practices. Identifies and writes fresh, compelling content and stories that will resonate with prospective students and key influencers.
  • Plays a lead role with researching, writing, proofreading and editing copy for all forms of enrollment management communications: email, print, web, social media.
  • Reviews and edits enrollment materials for consistency and accuracy.
  • Research and evaluates current methods and trends in print and electronic communication and marketing.
  • Manages the day‐to‐day setup of email/SMS messages, recipient lists, conditional logic, and A/B testing for all mailings in CRM, including ad‐hoc messages, process/deadline reminders, and form/event communications.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to create and execute communication strategies and associated content for specific outreach/access initiatives, on‐ or off‐campus enrollment events, athletic or special‐interest recruitment activities, and other special projects.
  • Plans and authors emails to non‐student constituents, such as parents/families, high school counselors, community‐based and college access organizations, independent educational consultants, community college transfer advisors, CCP (dual enrollment) partners, alumni, corporate partners, etc.
  • Solicits and edits messages from faculty, staff, alumni, current students, and current parents to use in communication flow.
  • Works collaboratively within internal frameworks for approvals before campaign deployment to ensure accuracy of content, consistency in tone and messaging, and alignment with brand and accessibility standards.
  • Supports construction and maintenance of web pages and portals. Assists with content and upkeep of admissions‐related webpages.
  • Analyzes data to assess the effectiveness of communications efforts and deliverability of email campaigns; leverages best practices and higher education benchmarks to evaluate ROI.
  • Monitor and research other institutions’ marketing approaches and industry‐ specific trends; provides recommendations for immediate or future adjustments to strategy.
  • Consults with the University’s Marketing and Communications team on future needs for photography or other multimedia assets that can strengthen and enhance enrollment communications.
  • Serves as a CRM expert for communications.

Event forms and content development (20%)

  • Works collaboratively with Enrollment Operations and maintains communications associated with enrollment events.
  • Collaborates with colleges to support enrollment event build needs.
  • Shares and maintains best practices.

Project/Vendor Management (20%)
  • Coordinates RFP processes, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing relationships with enrollment‐specific marketing partners/vendors.
  • Ensures established project deadlines are met.
  • Gathers information for, and responds to requests from, various external sites and profiles to ensure content is relevant and current.
  • Works with vendors on implementation for Slate communications

Other (5%)
  • Supports the implementation and integration of new application systems and associated communications.
  • Assists with data entry, integrity, reporting, and analytics.
  • Maintains an understanding of admissions policies, procedures and student data to inform strategies and tactics to best serve future students and the teams that support them.
  • Participates as an active member of Undergraduate Admissions through membership on committees.
  • Assists with on and off campus events and programs. Occasional travel and work nights and/or weekends.
  • Completes special projects and duties as assigned.
  • Prioritizes the student experience and provides exceptional customer service.


Non-Essential Functions and percent of time:
Working Conditions
Climate controlled office environment with high volume of customer service traffic. Some weekends and evening hours may be required. Must be able to handle high or increased stress levels during peak recruitment times.
