Position Overview 
Reporting to the Director of Recreation and Fitness Services, the Assistant Director of Operations and Member Services is responsible for the day-to-day management of facility operations, member services, and guest-related functions in the Student Recreation Center (SRC) for the department of Recreation and Wellbeing. The Assistant Director oversees the administrative functions and management of policies, programs and services that impact and enhance student life, department goals and learning outcomes. They provide leadership by recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating student Facility Attendants and Student Managers. The Assistant Director assists with equipment purchases, development of policies and procedures related to risk management, onsite supervision of facility functions and events and membership recruitment. This position will manage scheduling of the Student Recreation Center and oversight of high-quality customer service. The Assistant Director will supervise daily operations through logistical preparation and “on-call” commitments. The position will collaborate and create partnerships on and off campus to enhance student recreational needs and support student development.

Position Qualifications 
Required Experience  | Two years in recreation and facility management or the recreation program development field Experience in supervising, training, hiring and evaluating staff Experience with facility scheduling Experience evaluating and assessing program outcomes Developing, recommending and evaluating program and operation procedures and recommending change Membership and fitness services software experience Using computer software and applications for word processing and database management
Required Education  | Bachelor’s Degree in recreation administration, sport management, exercise science, higher education, physical education or business
Required Other  | Ability to work weekends, after regular business hours and holidays Ability to achieve First Aid and CPR instructor status with American Heart Association within 6 months of hire

Additional Preferred  | Master’s Degree in recreation administration, sport management, exercise science, higher education, physical education or business Member of NIRSA or relevant professional organizations Working knowledge of fire safety hazards, building life-safety systems, security procedures, crowd control, evacuation, multi-activity area monitoring and safety issues Experience developing and managing budgets Experience with adaptive or therapeutic recreation facility services to ensure effective membership experiences Experience developing and delivering fitness classes, fitness program membership services and personal training program management Ability to teach a wide variety of fitness classes Experience administering risk management practices for recreation programs Experience developing and implementing recreational programs
