Position Description: | Position Summary:The Assistant Director of Public Service Training – Operations is responsible for the effective development, coordination, and facilitation of law enforcement training programs and events within the Public Service Training Department.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Provide hands-on leadership to the discipline, curriculum development, and compliance functions of the Police Academy. Assist the Senior Director of Public Service Training with policy review and development. Assist with the ongoing review and update of curriculum (academic, skill-based, and scenarios) for the Police Academy. Oversee the discipline process within the Police Academy serving as the first point of contact for infractions amongst recruits. Coordinate dynamic, scenario-based training for the Police Academy utilizing best practices while incorporating changing trends in policing. Maintain and/or arrange for the maintenance and repair of all public service training weapons. This includes conducting monthly weapons inspections and repair of all past weapons and documenting same. Work to identify outside and alternative funding sources to benefit law enforcement training in Washtenaw County and surrounding areas. Ensure compliance with standards, policies, and procedures of Washtenaw Community Colleges, MCOLES, MSCTC, and other governing bodies. Oversee development, growth, and administration of MSCTC Local Corrections Academy. Oversee development, growth, and administration of PA 330 (Security Police) Academy. Assist in the development, scheduling, coordination, and facilitation of in-service training Responsible for Public Service Training inventory management, including inventory of PST equipment, and maintenance of academy portable radios and Public Service Training armory. Maintain inventory of all applicable supplies related to range operations, including but not limited to targets, target backers, and ammunition. Maintain inventory of all applicable supplies related to EVO operations. Maintain and/or arrange the repair of all public service training vehicles. This includes conducting monthly vehicle inspections and documenting same. Maintain and/or repair Public Service Training Program emergency driving classes’ equipment and supplies. Keep a current, documented record of all repair efforts. Act as support staff/security facilitator for outdoor Public Service Training Program driving classes. Coordinate and assist with state-required academy entrance testing. Responsible for academy student performance records entries, including MCOLES. MSCTC, and MITN. Seeking out opportunities for professional development. Regular attendance on campus is required for this position. Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director or their designee.
Minimum Qualifications: | Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of five (5) years full-time law enforcement and/or training experience or Associates degree and a minimum of seven (7) years full-time law enforcement and/or training experience. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated experience of developing and maintaining positive relationships within law enforcement or their former field. Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Office software (Word, Outlook, Excel, email, and other associated programs). Knowledge of/experience with MCOLES training standards, operations, and in-service training procedures. Able to work flexible hours including but not limited to evenings and weekends.
