Assistant Director of Research Commercialization Full Description

Position Summary: 
The NYU Entrepreneurial Institute’s Assistant Director of Research Commercialization leads programs and initiatives designed to accelerate the commercialization of deep technology and research from across the university. This position works closely with the Executive Director and the Venture Associate to develop and manage a robust pipeline of faculty, researchers, PhD students, and postdoctoral fellows. The Assistant Director will be primarily responsible for sourcing teams for coaching and participation in the Institute’s Tech Venture Program (TVP) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps program. A key aspect of this role is building a vibrant community around research commercialization at NYU. This includes developing, leading, and executing new programs and initiatives to grow NYU’s capacity in this area, as well as celebrating successes through events like the Tech Venture Summit to raise the visibility of and engagement in entrepreneurship within NYU’s research community. This role involves actively coaching deep tech teams and serving as a principal liaison to the NY I-Corps Hub, external partners in the deep-tech ecosystem, and key university stakeholders, such as research deans and department chairs. 

Qualifications: 
Required Education:
Doctoral Degree In a STEM field (e.g., life sciences, biomedical engineering, physical sciences, computer science, or related fields).

Required Experience:
5+ years of relevant professional experience in Research Commercialization including extensive, direct experience with customer development and lean startup methodologies. Demonstrated experience in program management, development, and execution. Experience in instructing/training and advising early stage research teams on customer development or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience:
5+ years Experience with the NSF I-Corps program, either as a participant, mentor, or instructor. Experience working in a deep tech startup, venture capital fund, or a university technology transfer office. A track record of successfully working with entrepreneurs and investors in a major startup ecosystem.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Deep understanding of the research commercialization process and the challenges faced by early stage deep tech ventures. Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. Strong project and/or program management experience Proven ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, including faculty, university administrators, and external partners. Highly collaborative work style, yet capable of working independently with limited guidance when needed. Possessing an entrepreneurial mindset, i.e. creative, adaptable, and proactive in a fast paced environment. Demonstrated passion for startups, innovation, and the entrepreneurial process. 

Additional Information: 
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $130,000.00 to USD $150,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
