Assistant Director, Student Affairs Full Description

Position Summary: 
Plan, develop and direct administrative activities for the Office of Student Affairs related to counseling and academic services for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing BA and MA degrees at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Create programs and develop and enhance administrative processes to assist students in distress and at-risk student populations; and oversee the administration and maintenance of student records and data for these student populations to ensure accuracy and confidentiality. Manage and investigate all student requests for leaves of absence and partner with the Director to make effective decisions regarding leaves. Consult and partner with NYU Wellness counselors and outside psychotherapists regarding proper plans of action for students with complex wellness issues or circumstances. Manage and enhance Gallatin's affiliations with NYU Academic Achievement Program and NYU Opportunity Programs to ensure that under-represented minority students and first-generation students succeed and graduate.

Qualifications: 
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in counseling, educational psychology or a related field.

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree Social Work (MSW), Counseling (MHC), Education (MEd) is strongly preferred.

Required Experience:
5+ years of relevant increasingly responsible professional level experience including experience with advising at risk students, developing policies and procedures and supervising staff.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills. Strong counseling and planning skills. Ability to advise/counsel and problem solve while interacting with individuals at all levels of the organization. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise discretion in the dissemination of information. Ability to be patient with student and faculty frustration or hostility. Accuracy and attention to detail are crucial. Strong data management and analysis skills. Familiarity with MS Office Suite and database software.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $78,200.00 to USD $98,200.00.
