Job Description

The Associate Athletics Director for Business Intelligence & External Strategy provides leadership and vision for the development, implementation, and management of data-driven strategies across Virginia Tech Athletics. This position is responsible for overseeing all business intelligence initiatives, data analytics infrastructure, reporting systems, and strategic insights that inform departmental decision making.

The role will lead efforts to integrate data across revenue generation units, sport programs, fan engagement platforms, and operational systems to drive revenue optimization, improve resource allocation, and support competitive success. The Associate AD will collaborate with senior leadership, coaches, and administrative units to transform complex data into actionable insights that guide strategic planning, financial performance, and operational efficiency. Position will supervise one fulltime Director of Business Intelligence.

In addition, the position will play a key role in evaluating emerging economic models in collegiate athletics including Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), revenue sharing, media rights value, and fan monetization strategies, ensuring the department remains competitive within the evolving landscape of major college athletics.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Sports Management, Economics, Information Systems, or related field with relevant experience, or a master's degree.
Significant professional experience in analytics, business intelligence, or strategic operations.
Experience managing large datasets and enterprise analytics initiatives.
Demonstrated experience in sports, entertainment, higher education, or related industries.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Business Analytics, Sports Management, Data Science, or MBA.
Experience within a NCAA Division I "Power 4" collegiate athletics program.
Experience leading analytics teams or business intelligence units.
Functional familiarity with fan engagement analytics, sports performance data integration, and revenue modeling in athletics.
