Associate Director, Finance and Planning Full Description

We are seeking an Associate Director, Finance and Planning to join the Student Affairs’ Finance and Planning team in Blacksburg, VA. This role plays a vital part in providing support across multiple Student Affairs departments, with a major focus on Residential, AEDS, Central, Communication, HR and IT with a secondary focus on Dining and E&G departments.

Job Description
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE:

1) You’ll be joining the Finance and Planning team, a department committed to delivering exceptional financial stewardship and strategic support to enhance our division's impact.
2) You’ll be reporting to the Director of Finance, in a Regular twelve-month, 100% administrative professional appointment. 
3) You’ll provide leadership in financial administration, foster teamwork and collaboration, and demonstrate a high commitment to customer service by applying extensive knowledge, skills and management experience in oversight of daily financial and administrative functions.
4) You'll supervise staff; maintain and update monthly financial and budget reports; provide management and oversight of reconciliations for state and Foundational funds, payroll, purchase card activity and fixed assets; provide oversight for fiscal functions and business compliance and maintenance of internal controls; provide training on new business systems and proactively monitor actions for audit concerns.
5) You’ll have the chance to grow and take advantage of a developmental plan with opportunities to advance within the Department and the Division.

Required Qualifications
• Master's degree in Public or Business Administration, finance, economics, or related field or a Bachelor's degree with significant training and/or experience, which equals an advanced degree. 
• Experience in a financial role in higher education, with exposure to fund accounting, budgeting, payroll, funds handling, procurement, and accounts receivable. 
• Demonstrated successful experience in performing detailed accounting work and reconciliations.
• Knowledge of university policies and procedures and demonstrated experience following and communicating financial policies and procedures.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to quality and continuous professional development.
• Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to cultivate positive working relationships, foster teamwork and support collaboration.
• High personal and professional ethical standards and a demonstrated commitment to diversity

Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated knowledge of computer software including Banner, HokieMart, Microstrategy, HokieServ, Windows Operating System, and Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and SQL.
• Demonstrated success in a supervisory capacity
