California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) is one of 23 campuses within the California State University system and the premier comprehensive public university in the heart of Los Angeles. As a federally recognized Hispanic-serving (HSI) and Asian American, Native American, and Pacific Islander-serving institution (AANAPISI), Cal State LA is seeking an Associate Director of Financial Aid Operations.
Under the general direction of the Director, the Associate Director assumes responsibility for the day-to-day administration of Cal State LA's comprehensive student financial aid delivery system, which encompasses over 50,000 applications, more than 18,000 recipients, and an annual program volume of approximately $280 million. The incumbent assists the Director in the planning, development, implementation, and coordination of all phases of federal, state, and University financial aid programs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer the day-to-day operations of Cal State LA's financial aid delivery system, covering over 50,000 applications and 18,000+ recipients annually.
  • Assist the Director in planning, developing, implementing, and coordinating federal, state, and University financial aid programs.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure timely and accurate delivery of financial aid services in compliance with federal and state statutes, regulations, and University policies.
  • Provide guidance on resolving complex student appeals and requests for exceptions within established regulatory and policy frameworks.
  • Serve as senior administrative officer for the department in the Director's absence, representing the Director at meetings and exercising delegated authority.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, Business, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Six years of professional financial aid experience, including a minimum of three years of managerial/supervisory experience in a college or university financial aid office.
  • Thorough and demonstrated knowledge of federal and state financial aid rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of and experience with an automated student financial aid system at a large college or university.
  • Excellent writing, public speaking, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to reside in the State of California as of date of hire, per CSU policy.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft student information system, WebGrants, Common Origination and Disbursement (COD), Blackbaud, On-Base, and the National Student Loan Database System.
  • Ability to plan and implement technical projects.
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range: $5,053-$16,221/month. Budgeted Hiring Salary Range: $5,053-$7,845/month. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.
