Business Development Representative (NY)

The Role
Are you a driven, ambitious professional ready to accelerate your career in sales and business development? At Magma Math, we’re looking for energetic Business Development Representatives to join our fast-growing team in NYC.

As a BDR, you’ll be on the front lines of our growth—representing Magma Math in your aligned region and acting as a key connection point between prospective customers and our sales team. While cold outreach will remain part of the role, this position is predominantly field-facing, with a strong focus on attending regional conferences, events, and industry gatherings to generate high-quality leads and build meaningful relationships with educators, school leaders, and decision-makers.

You’ll be a trusted, client-facing presence for Magma Math, working closely with our Account Executives to qualify opportunities, share market insights, and ensure a seamless handoff from first conversation to formal sales process.

Importantly, this role is designed as a long-term growth opportunity. There is significant room for progression, and high-performing BDRs will have a clear pathway into full sales cycle roles, such as Account Executive, where you’ll own opportunities end-to-end—from prospecting through close.

This isn’t just another sales role—it’s a launchpad into a full commercial career within a mission-driven company.

Responsibilities
  • Represent Magma Math at regional conferences, trade shows, and education events to generate new leads and build relationships with prospective customers
  • Proactively research and identify target schools, districts, and education stakeholders within your aligned region
  • Generate and qualify new leads through a mix of in-person outreach, cold calls, and email campaigns
  • Act as a client-facing ambassador for Magma Math, confidently communicating our value proposition to educators and administrators
  • Work closely with Account Executives to coordinate outreach, align on target accounts, and ensure smooth handoff of qualified opportunities
  • Gain exposure to later-stage sales activities, including discovery, demos, and pipeline management, as part of your development toward a full sales cycle role
  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitor offerings, and market dynamics to effectively position Magma Math
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all lead interactions and activities in HubSpot
  • Meet and exceed monthly and quarterly targets for qualified leads, meetings booked, and pipeline contribution

Who You Are
  • 1–5 years of experience in SDR, BDR, or lead generation roles within B2B sales
  • A track record of meeting or exceeding sales or pipeline targets
  • Comfortable in client-facing environments, including in-person events and conferences
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders
  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to work independently while collaborating closely with a broader sales team
  • Motivated by career progression and excited about developing into a full sales cycle role
  • A strong interest in the education sector and a desire to make a positive impact through technology

Bonus Points
  • Experience attending or working education conferences, trade shows, or field marketing events
  • Experience with HubSpot, ZoomInfo, or other GTM sales tools
  • Prior experience in education technology or a similar mission-driven industry

Why you'll love working here:
  • You’ll join a fast-growing tech scale-up on a meaningful mission to improve K–12 math education.
  • You’ll work in a supportive, highly collaborative environment where your ideas and perspective truly matter, with the freedom to explore new solutions and approaches!
