Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. May require working outside of regular scheduled hours, including weekends. Opportunities for a hybrid telework schedule are available.

This position offers a flexible, mostly remote work schedule for candidates who reside in the state of Utah. While most duties can be performed remotely, the employee must be available to attend essential meetings and events on campus as needed.

A hybrid telework schedule is available for this position, dependent on operational needs and management approval. The arrangement will be established in partnership with the manager and is subject to ongoing center needs.

Job Summary
The Business Development Manager will play a critical role in driving growth for the Utah DCC. This individual will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities, representing the organization externally, and managing inbound and outreach activities in collaboration with internal stakeholders.

This is a highly visible, hands-on role for a self-directed professional who is comfortable both operating independently and liaising with external audiences while navigating a matrixed organizational structure. Initially serving as the sole business development professional, the position will help establish foundational BD processes, with the opportunity to build and manage a team as the organization grows.

Essential Functions:
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities within the biotech, pharma, and medical device industries. Assist with identification of new business opportunities that may be government or philanthropic partner funded.
  • Develop and manage a pipeline of prospective clients through outbound outreach, inbound leads, and networking.
  • Conduct introductory and follow-up meetings with potential customers.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, capability overviews, and responses to client inquiries, in coordination with internal teams.
  • Support proposal development, including coordination with scientific, operational, and financial stakeholders.
  • Track and report on business development activities and metrics.
  • Represent the Utah DCC at conferences, trade shows, and networking events.
  • Serve as a key external ambassador for the Utah DCC’s mission, vision, values, and capabilities.
  • Provide environmental scanning and stakeholder feedback to inform program messaging and communications.
  • Support digital communications initiatives, including email outreach and coordination of institutional social media channels.
  • Liaise with marketing and communications professionals throughout the University.
