Job Description
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 
  • Directs day-to-day process improvement with cross-functional teams in the use of process optimization tools and data to ensure the best use of the team members’ time.  This includes leading, mentoring, demonstrating, and executing the actual tools and methodologies as needed to ensure on-time success of the team.
  • Coordinate department measurements, leveraging cross-functional Business Units such as P&T, Finance, and IT teams to ensure collaboration and trust with these internal business teams.  Leads initiatives or projects at the department and enterprise-wide level.
  • Develop and deploy complex BI reports and dashboards.  Use data visualization and UX skills to present insights clearly and concisely.  Manage change requests.  Provide guidance and explanations on metrics and visualizations.
  • Perform quality assurance tasks to ensure accurate and complete data reporting.  Design process and business audits for data quality.
  • Build prototypes and author novel reporting through Power BI, Tableau, and other BI platforms, as needed.
  • Design and implement operational and data-driven decision support systems to establish and maintain a culture of execution and continuous process improvement (CPI).
  • Create and maintain documentation about data definitions, metric explanations, and visualizations to promote university wide alignment and consistency in reporting.
  • Develops measurement plans with high-level and low-level KPs to identify efficiencies and prevent waste in the organization.
  • Perform data discovery and analysis to translate complex business problems / information requirements to scalable data model and viz solutions.  Create data-centric processes and use analytical methods to produce actionable insights.
  • Provides training and support to other members of the team to foster development in their roles.
  • Travel on limited basis for conferences/summits (< 10%).

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
  • Advanced SQL programming skills (Spark, Oracle environments preferred).
  • Strong Data Viz Developer skills.  Demonstratable experience creating BI vizzes that tell stories, follow standard palettes/themes, dual axis vizzes, parameters, filters, LOD expressions, binning, geo data types, and dimensions/measures.  Skilled in engineering the best vizz styles to tell the story.
  • Ability to analyze and understand data sources and design data model solutions.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of relational databases, data lakes, and data marts.
  • Expertise in understanding, manipulating, and querying large data sets with complex file structures.
  • Understanding of PII data, data security, and data privacy considerations
  • Able to explain complex data and research issues in a professional manner with technical and non-technical colleagues, including the ability to explain the significance of data and trends to stakeholders.
  • Leverages strong business analysis skills and able to think systematically.

Job Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related experience, or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of related experience, or a Doctorate or Terminal degree with 1+ years of experience.
Department Specific Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science/Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Management Information Systems, or a related quantitative analysis field of study.
  • 3+ years of related BI analyst / developer experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in computer science or business analytics.
  • Higher education domain experience.
  • Professional certificate in Data Analysis (e.g., Google, IBM)
  • Track record of effective change management and organizational transformation.
  • SharePoint development experience.
  • Programming in Python or R.
  • Forecasting, machine learning, or predictive modeling knowledge.
  • Statistics skills.
  • Knowledge of qualitative research analysis, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Ability to define and articulate the organizational vision for your department.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
