Business Operations and HR Compliance Assistant Full Description

Job Description
Reporting to the AVP for Administration in the Division of Human Resources, this position will provide assistance with HR compliance and business operations for the division. Primary responsibilities include support for conviction and driving checks, drug and alcohol testing, and related compliance programs; leads facility team managing 10 training and conference rooms; and operational support for the division’s day-to-day operations to ensure compliance with university, state, and foundation policies and procedures; as well as assisting with coordinating special projects and programs. This position will exercise initiative and independent judgement while using discretion with information; manage projects independently, including conducting thorough research and analyzing findings; proactively solve problems and/or independently handle issues as necessary; and effectively collaborate and partner with team members, departments and/or external vendors to complete project objectives.
Required Qualifications
• Demonstrated ability to analyze data and draw conclusions.
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience using electronic filing systems and backup.
• Demonstrated experience with computer applications: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, Teams, Google Drive; proficiency with spreadsheets and database applications.
• Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, analytical, writing and editing skills, including the ability to draft presentations, reports, correspondence, etc. with a high level of attention to detail.
• Ability to initiate tasks and work independently to task completion with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated experience communicating clearly, effectively, and diplomatically with diverse constituencies.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
• Associate Degree and/or equivalent work experience.
• Experience with conviction check; driving check; drug testing; alcohol testing; or related programs.
• Experience with operational and/or fiscal coordination and practices.
• Experience with TrueScreen or similar third-party background check system, Banner, HokieMart, and/or similar systems.
• Knowledge of university, state, and foundation finance and business best practices, policies and procedures.
