Job Description:

Position Salary Range:

  • $51,500 - $64,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties:

  • Account management via the Workday financial management system, including: expense approvals, processing and transfers; account reporting, monitoring and reconciling.

  • Management of the school's purchasing card approvals, expenses, allocations, and reconciliation.

  • Travel processing in the Concur travel system, including approvals and request submissions, expense reports, and travel expense tracking.

  • Assists in the post-award management, accounting, tracking, expense and travel processing, and reconciliation of the school's sponsored funding.

  • Acts as resource to staff and faculty on policies and regulations regarding the administration of funds, monitoring compliance with budgets and restrictions, and assists in resolution.

  • Maintains all applicable accounting records and files.

  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, strong organization and time management skills, good working knowledge of (and experience in) general accounting procedures, experience in post-award procedures in higher education, experience with federal and state regulations, knowledge of ERA, Concur and Workday systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), Adobe Acrobat, and Google Forms/Sheets.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of basic principles, practices and methods of accounting practices. Strong knowledge of PC based software for MS Excel, Word, email, and Adobe; Workday experience is a plus. Skill in coordinating activities and establishing priorities. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written.

Working Environment:

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds. Frequent communication verbally in English to perform essential duties. Work both independently or within a complex structured team. Normally receives no instructions on routine work and general instructions on new assignments with review of completed tasks. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices & policies in selecting methods & techniques for obtaining solutions.

Department Statement:

The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SoMSS) at ASU is currently home to about 60 tenured or tenure-track faculty members, 60 instructional faculty, 15 postdoctoral associates, 200 graduate students, 1,400 undergraduate student majors, and 25 staff members. The School teaches courses to over 20,000 undergraduate students each academic year. SoMSS recently started a new undergraduate degree program in data science. The School also offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral programs in applied mathematics, mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education, as well as undergraduate and masters programs in actuarial science. SoMSS has a strong interdisciplinary research profile that includes numerous collaborations inside and outside the university, such as in the biological, environmental, medical, physical and social sciences, education, and multiple areas of engineering.


The mission of the Simon A Levin Mathematical, Computational and Modeling Sciences Center is to bridge the gap between the biological, mathematical, environmental, and social sciences. At the Levin Center, we train the next generation of researchers to focus on solutions rather than academic disciplines. This position supports two summer programs: the Joaquin Bustoz Math-Science Honors Program (JBMSHP) and the Quantitative Research in the Life and Social Sciences Program (QRLSSP), including year-round activities for both programs and other endeavors.
