Job Summary
Are you passionate about helping others succeed and making a meaningful impact on their future careers? As a Career Advisor at the University of Texas at Dallas University Career Center, you’ll engage directly with students and alumni through personalized advising, including resume and cover letter revisions, career planning, and interview preparation. This role also involves collaboration with faculty, departments, and teams to create and deliver workshops, events, and presentations that enhance career readiness.

As career centers evolve to meet the changing needs of students and the job market, adaptability is key. You’ll be part of a dynamic team that is scaling services to reach a broader audience. This role requires someone who is not only adaptable and accepting of change but also eager to learn and collaborate in a fast-paced environment.

Beyond individual appointments, you’ll play a critical role in developing and implementing strategies to communicate the value and impact of the career center’s services to the university community. We encourage creativity in finding innovative ways to promote our resources and expand our reach.

This role reports to the Associate Director of Career Development. The University Career Center is part of the Student Affairs division of UT Dallas.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and one to three years professional work experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with; Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or a closely related discipline. Direct Career Services and career advising experience, as well as experience administering personality and career assessments, is preferred.
Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide individual career coaching services to students and alumni in all aspects of the career development process.
  • Develop, organize, and deliver career programming, including workshops, presentations, seminars, and other events to enhance student career readiness.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with faculty and administration, working collaboratively with academic units, colleges, and student service departments to promote career readiness initiatives
  • Market and promote the University Career Center to gain buy-in from university stakeholders, including faculty, administration, and student service departments. Develop and implement strategies to effectively communicate the value and impact of the center’s services.
  • Periodically engage in activities beyond the regular office hours of 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, in order to accommodate presentations and events. Flexibility regarding evenings and weekends is required based on the demands of the situation.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the career center by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Must be willing and able to attend professional development opportunities and events on and off campus. Must possess the willingness and ability to occasionally work an unconventional work schedule that may include some evenings and weekends. Must be able to negotiate stairs and capable of lifting and pulling 10 – 15 pounds.

Remote Work Notice:
After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for one remote day a week work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
