Job Summary | The Career Development Specialist will provide specialized career development coaching to help students identify, build, and articulate the competencies needed for internships and career opportunities. Designs and delivers workshops, presentations, and other learning experiences that support students’ professional growth. Collaborates with faculty, campus partners, and external organizations to integrate career development content and expand opportunities for student success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities | Provide career guidance and exploration by facilitating student self-assessment to identify strengths, interests, skills and career values. Guide students in exploring academic majors, career paths, and industry opportunities. Assist with individual career planning by developing personalized career development plans aligned with the student’s academic and professional goals. Advise students on extracurricular involvement and experiential learning opportunities. Provide job and internship search support by coaching students on effective job and internship search strategies. Provide guidance on networking, employer outreach and use of career platforms. Design and facilitate workshops, presentations, and group sessions on career readiness topics. Collaborate with faculty and campus partners to integrate career development into academic programs. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree or three (3) years of equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar role. Experience working with students or young adults. Experience and knowledge of career development principles, job search strategies and basic labor- market trends. Experience in computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s Degree or equivalent direct experience with/advising students. Experience in higher education working with students. Experience developing workshops, presentations, career-readiness programs for groups. Experience with problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Effective organizational skills, including the ability to plan for future events and to execute on time.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Must be able to work independently. Must be able to manage multiple projects at one time. Understanding of employer needs and workforce trends. Organization and time-management skills Familiarity with entry level pathways. Knowledge of job-search strategies, resume standards, interviewing techniques and professional branding. Coaching and advising skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Technology proficiency. Ability to problem-solve, think critically and provide actionable guidance. Ability to design and deliver career-readiness programs, workshops and events.
Other Requirements Workplace and Eligibility Conditions | Exposure to standard office procedures. Repetitive use of a key board at a work station, use of manual dexterity, lifting and moving.
