Career Mentor Full Description

Career Services at Weber State University is looking for a positive, team-oriented student to serve as a career mentor, supporting marketing and outreach efforts, presenting on career-related topics, helping with events, and assisting with other tasks. Training is provided.

Position Details
  • Up to 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling.
  • One mandatory one-hour training meeting each week.

Qualifications
Successful candidates will be enthusiastic, dependable, data-oriented, and have excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities
Career Services Front Desk: Assists students, employers, and visitors in person, by phone, and through email; reviews student appointments, employer accounts, and job postings in Handshake; and helps maintain a welcoming and professional office environment.
Career Mentoring: Meets individually with students to help strengthen résumés, cover letters, and interviewing skills, and assists students with Handshake and LinkedIn profiles.
Events & Presentations: Supports Career Services events, helps give presentations to groups on career-related topics, and assists with marketing and outreach for events and other services.
Projects: Identifies and posts jobs and internships, helps communicate with employers and maintain employer information, and completes other projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and presentation skills.
  • Strong computer skills, comfortable with Microsoft Office including Excel or equivalent, and able to pick up new technical skills quickly.
  • Solid project management skills and good attention to detail.
  • Must enroll as a full-time student each semester and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.
  • Must submit a FAFSA each year to be considered for Federal Work-Study funding (does not apply to international students); students not awarded funding may still apply.

Preferred Qualifications
  • GPA above 3.0, with higher GPAs strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud products, HTML/CSS, SQL, or basic coding is a plus but not required.
