Position Summary: | The part-time Academic Advisor will provide academic advisement to students who are admitted on a provisional basis, Advanced Standing students, and students in other categories as needed. The part-time Academic Advisor will work with the Associate Dean, the Academic Advising team, the Onboarding team, and others at the School and University, such as the Registrar’s Office staff, to assist students with their plans of study, barriers to registration, processing Leave of Absence forms, and withdrawals from courses/the School. They will also oversee referrals to student support, faculty, or other University services to resolve student issues.
Position Responsibilities: | Assist students in following and updating their plans of study/roadmaps to meet all graduation requirementsProvide individual and group advisement meetings as needed prior to registration each semester and at other times for special circumstancesProvide academic advisement to students who are provisionally admitted, Advanced Standing students, and students in other categories as neededWork with the Associate Dean and others to resolve unique study issues, such as:Independent/Direct StudyIncomplete gradesCourse substitutionsPracticum extensionsRevised roadmapsStudents returning from Leaves of AbsenceAssist students with:Transfers into other program options or into the live virtual/face-to-face, or block program optionsRegistration permitsRequests to audit coursesRequests for transfer creditsConnecting to Practicum PlannersApplying for graduationDeclaring and meeting the course requirements for advanced certificates and/or CASACCompleting Leave of Absence, late Add/Drop, and Withdrawal formsMonitoring DegreeTrack to meet graduation requirementsIntervene when a student encounters a barrier to registration, including by:
Referring students to appropriate departments when they have holds on their accountsAssessing screenshots of registration restriction messagesApplying permitsWorking directly with the Registrar’s Office staff to resolve barriers to registrationMonitor course registration numbers and suggest when more sections of courses may be neededRefer students to appropriate faculty and/or staff to resolve issues related to courses, practicum, student support, and other servicesRedirect inquiries from students, faculty, and alumni to the appropriate resourcesRefer students to the Associate Dean when they express dissatisfaction with a course, an instructor, the registration process, or services from other departments (Office of Disabilities Services, Office of Student Finances, etc.)Document interactions with students via Yeshiva Success Network, Sonia, and other systemsAnswer students’ questions regarding policies, procedures, and appropriate contactsAttend Student Support Committee as neededMake referrals to the Student Review Committee and provide documentation as needed
Experience & Educational Background: | Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. MSW strongly preferredAt least 3-5 years of administrative experience requiredAn equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered
Skills & Competencies: | Exceptional people skillsCapacity to generate professional and courteous correspondence in a timely fashionMust possess strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPointMay use other Microsoft programs as assignedThe ability to quickly learn and become proficient in new software and technology is essentialMust be exceedingly well organized, flexibleMust have the ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient; a high level of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this roleMust demonstrate good judgment, initiative, and attention to detailMust possess strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills
Salary Range: | $35.00 - $38.00 per hour
