Job Summary 
Cultivates effective relationships with stakeholders across various external channels, including Cleveland State Universities (CSU’s) social media platforms and the management of CSU’s media relations with local and national media outlets. Develops and execute external communications strategies and tactics to effectively display CSU’s achievements, initiatives, and events, as well as manage crises and ad-hoc media requests. Involves collaborating closely with colleagues across CSU, including campus police, the Office of the President, Office of the Provost, and other internal leaders, to create cohesive external communications campaigns that align with internal messaging and follow CSU’s brand and editorial guidelines. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree preferably in communications, journalism, or related field. Four (4) years of experience in public relations, media relations, journalism, or corporate communications. Experience in social media management, tools, and content management systems. Experience with posting and analytics platforms, i.e., Sprout Social, Drupal, Meltwater.

Preferred Qualifications  | Master’s degree preferably in communications, journalism, or related field. Associated Press (AP)-style fluency. One (1) year of experience in a newsroom of a top 30 media market. Three (3) years of experience managing corporate social media accounts. Marketing experience within a higher education or agency setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)  | Knowledge of social media editing tools is needed to create effective online videos and other content. Knowledge and experience with factors that drive search engine optimization. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate across all internal colleges, departments and with key external partners, including media outlets. Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail. Ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities. Ability to work as an individual contributor and an effective team player, in addition to being highly organized, self-directed and forward-thinking. Ability to clearly convey complex ideas and data in written, presentation and spoken formats to a variety of audiences. Skilled in project management, problem-solving, analysis, follow-through, influence, and persuasion. Ability to function as systems thinker and be solution-minded with a global perspective. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
