Position Overview  | The position oversees internal and external communication strategy for the unit. The incumbent of the position uses university strategies and process to execute the communications and marketing goals of the unit. This position advances the reputation of the University of Idaho and unit(s) through purposeful and creative messaging that is tied to strategic initiatives and builds campus wide and public understanding and support for the teaching and research mission of the unit(s) specifically, as well as the University of Idaho in general. Additionally, they will serve as the unit’s liaison for leveraging and activating strategies in partnership with University Communications & Marketing.
Duties may include: Advance the unit’s reputation through execution of public relations strategies that drive purposeful messaging and engagement in support of the unit’s strategic goals, priorities and initiatives Provides communications leadership in a variety of unit priorities Write and edit a variety of content in digital and print formats Leverages central communication and marketing initiatives and contributes to the university’s broader content strategy Assist the university’s communication and marketing strategic goals with vision articulation, recruitment/enrollment messaging, Donor/Alumni communication and internal communications Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications 
Required Experience  | Two years of communications, journalism or public relations experience Editing and writing business correspondence using proper grammar and punctuation as demonstrated in application materials Handling a variety of projects simultaneously that require a high degree of attention to details
Required Education  | Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations; four additional years of experience (for a total of six years) may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree
Required Other  | None

Additional Preferred  | Master’s degree in communications, marketing or public relations or a related field Working knowledge of web design principles, printing processes, graphics formats, and effective design and photography principles Experience producing and editing informational and marketing collateral Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Pages, Powerpoint/Keynote, and Photoshop or other photo-editing program Social Media strategy and content creation Experience developing, executing and measuring impact of communications plans and initiatives to achieve organizational goals Demonstrated record of collaboration and excellent interpersonal and communication skills with internal and external constituents Experience working with enrollment and/or advancement and development professionals Experience working in higher education, particularly in non-traditional learning environments (non-credit, online, asynchronous, professional development, continuing education) Ability to translate technical or specialized information for public use and understanding Experience in media relations Established record of collaboration and good interpersonal and communication skills with internal and external constituents
