Pay Range Information  | Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

 Position Summary Information 
Job Description Summary  | The Compensation Specialist (Temporary) is responsible for building a centralized, accurate database of job descriptions for every position at the university. This role will develop a standardized job description template, assess the current and completeness status of existing descriptions, and lead the effort to bring outdated descriptions current.

Responsibilities  | Build and maintain a centralized database/tracker of job descriptions covering every position at the university Document which positions have a current job description, which do not, and the last update date for each Develop and finalize a standardized job description template for university-wide use Review existing job descriptions to identify those that have not been updated within the past three years, and prioritize them for revision Draft and update job descriptions using the new template, in partnership with hiring managers and department leadership Track progress toward having a complete, current job description on file for every position at the university Ensure consistency in formatting, classification language, and FLSA status across all job descriptions Partner with the AVP, Benefits & Compensation on classification and compensation-related questions that arise during the review process Maintain organized documentation and provide regular status updates on database completion and outstanding descriptions Support departmental projects and initiatives related to compensation administration. Assist with process improvements as needed.

Required Qualifications  | Associate’s degree required; bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred or equivalent work experience 2+ years of experience in compensation, job analysis, or HR generalist work involving job descriptions Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting established deadlines. Demonstrates exceptional customer service by providing timely, accurate, and professional support while fostering a positive employee experience. Maintains a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail when processing benefits transactions and employee data Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, discretion, and integrity. Strong written communication skills with the ability to develop clear, concise, and well-structured job descriptions that accurately reflect organizational roles and responsibilities. Maintains composure and professionalism while managing competing priorities and responding to changing business needs. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, with the ability to develop, maintain, and analyze tracking tools, reports, and project documentation. Ability to interpret and apply organizational policies, procedures, and classification standards while maintaining consistency and accuracy. Works effectively both independently and collaboratively, contributing to a positive, team-oriented work environment
