Our office comes alive on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays! Three times a week, our Bay Area team gathers in our office located in San Francisco's Financial District (580 California St) for All Hands meetings, collaborative sessions, innovation-driven brainstorming, and events that bring us closer together. Our space has everything we need—from cozy rooms for 1:1 mentoring and focused work to larger rooms designed for team activities.

About the role

Data Analysts at Academia.edu will partner with our Publishing team to unearth large growth opportunities by analyzing our trove of data to deliver value to users and growth for the business. As an embedded member of a cross-functional product team, you will partner with the Director of Product and Technology to speed up the slow-moving academic publishing market by improving the speed and quality of peer reviews, predicting journal indexing and other exciting problems. How you’ll contribute

  • Proactively find opportunities for business growth, development, and scaling for your individual team and the company.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret data to inform product strategy and product roadmap.
  • Define key metrics, design and maintain dashboards, and lead business reporting for your cross-functional product team.
  • Design and interpret results of experiments.

The skills and experiences you bring to succeed (absolute requirements)

  • 4+ years of experience in a data analytics position.
  • Knowledge of SQL and databases (we use Redshift) with the ability to write structured and efficient queries on large data sets.
  • Python or R skills.
  • Experience with data visualization and BI tools (we use Mode)Experience with data pipeline tools (we use DBT and Airbyte).
  • Experience applying critical thinking to business needs and problems, and identifying opportunities.
  • Experience with Excel or Google Sheets for analyses and reporting.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills, including a proven ability to influence decision making.
  • Ability to autonomously seek information, gather resources, and deliver results without waiting for direction.
  • A work style oriented around results and creating impact.
