The Data Services Engineer is responsible for reporting, investigating, and manipulating data in support of Navvy, a rapidly growing classroom assessment platform. They will use industry best practices while working in a team of high-performing professionals.
This requisition is part of Pearson's School Technology team, which develops innovative assessment technology platforms. Navvy is used by students and teachers in the classroom to obtain precision diagnoses of student learning needs. Navvy's efficient, rigorous assessments fill a unique need for schools across the country, and is an important part of Pearson's future direction. We are looking for outstanding candidates to bolster the staff of this important project.

The current Navvy development team comprises a small group of inspired individuals with a passion for innovation and pride in producing excellent user experiences. Because the product provides a mission-critical service to educators whose time is extremely valuable, high-quality performance is required to meet customer expectations.
The Data Services Engineer will:
Investigate underlying data to assist in production support efforts
Assist platform engineering team with in-app reporting and dashboard development
Work with adjacent teams to develop reliable data extracts that support their work
Implement validation checks and monitoring to maintain data integrity and consistency
Build tools to fabricate data sets for standing up product demos and to assist QA efforts
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent technology discipline (equivalent job experience will also be considered)
2+ years relevant data engineering experience in a SaaS environment
Knowledge of data modeling and warehousing concepts
Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)
Experience with building data pipelines following industry best practices
Significant experience with writing complex SQL queries (PostgreSQL experience preferred but not critical)
Experience with Git or similar version control tools
Desired Experience:
2+ years experience working in an agile development environment
Quickly learn new processes and tools, business domains and technical applications
Able to think technically and analytically
Must assimilate information, distill knowledge, apply experience and provide solution alternatives and recommendations
Must have strong time management skills - including the ability to plan, set priorities, adapt to change, and meet established timelines without constant supervision
Must be a self-starter and detail-oriented
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work within a team

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York State, New York City, Vermont, Washington State, and Washington DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
The minimum full-time salary range is between $85 - $115,000.
