Job Summary
The Database Administrator is a fully competent and productive professional contributor who will be responsible for the creation, support, and administration of MySQL, Postgres, Oracle and SQL Server databases on both UNIX and Windows platforms while under general supervision. This position is primarily for MySQL however the DBA will still collaborate with other staff to establish standards, policies, and procedures for all database construction and use, as well as programing and application administration.
1. MySQL Administration
- Installing, configuring, and upgrading MySQL
- Managing roles, permissions, and security
- Monitoring performance and system health
2. SQL Proficiency
- Optimizing queries for performance
- Understanding execution plans
3. Backup & Recovery
- Setting up automated backup strategies
- Performing PITR (Point-in-Time Recovery)
- Ensuring disaster recovery readiness
4. Performance Tuning
- Analyzing and improving slow queries
- Index optimization (B-tree, GIN, GiST, etc.)
7. Linux/Unix System Administration
- Shell scripting for automation
- Familiarity with system-level performance metrics
- Working with systemd, crontab, etc.
- Setting up alerts for disk space, replication lag, query spikes, etc.
8. Soft Skills
- Problem-solving: Debugging complex issues under pressure
- Communication: Explaining technical decisions clearly to peers/stakeholders
- Documentation: Writing runbooks, SOPs, and change logs
Teamwork: Collaborating with developers, sysadmins, and data teams
This is a remote position.
What We're Looking For
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
- Two (2) years of experience in database administration
- or a combination of education and experience including at least one-year technical experience with Postgres, mySQL or Oracle
Skills Required:
- MySQL, Postgres, Oracle, Linux, Familiarity with Windows OS, Microsoft SQL, MySQL, Oracle, PostGreSQL, MS Office, PowerShell, TSQL, SQL Server Management Studio, SecureCRT

The anticipated annual salary for this position is between $70,320 to $74,712 commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience. The final salary offer will be determined based on a variety of factors, including equity, available budget, educational background, and relevant experience.
