Position Title  | Department Chair of Biological Sciences
Position Summary  | California Baptist University, an evangelical Christian university affiliated with the California Southern Baptist Convention, invites applications for a Department Chair of Biological Sciences, which is a full-time tenure track 12-month (year-round) faculty position beginning August 2026.

Candidates must have the ability and desire to lead an active and enthusiastic department that supports students in career planning, research, and professional school preparation.

Candidates must embrace the mission of California Baptist University, and evidence a clear understanding of, and commitment to, excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service through the integration of Christian faith with learning. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in education, and service activities that support the mission of CBU and the Department of Biological Sciences.
Pay Range  | The compensation for this appointment will range from $100,000 – $115,000 annually and reflects what California Baptist University reasonably expects to pay for this faculty appointment. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant, as well as market conditions. In addition to wages, CBU offers a robust suite of employee benefits.
Qualifications  | While candidates who have completed a Ph.D. in any area of Biology by August 2026 may be considered, strong preference will be given to student-centered candidates with a record of exceptional teaching and growing levels of academic leadership.
Teaching Responsibilities  | Leadership Responsibilities:Support the University’s mission and goals, the continuous quality improvement process, and embrace a broad institutional view. Serve as an ambassador and champion for the Department of Biological Sciences, its programs, faculty, and students. This leader will model service-based leadership, and build consensus among students, faculty, and administration. Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed by the Dean.

Administrative Responsibilities: Serving alongside the Dean and Associate Dean, this role promotes a scholarly and supportive environment that encourages faculty to flourish in teaching, scholarship, and service. Responsibilities include scheduling, curriculum planning, and student advising. This position partners with other offices in efforts for the recruitment and retention of students and building community connections and University support. Other responsibilities include resolving personnel and student issues, budgeting, and serving on institutional committees.

Academic Responsibilities:This position includes teaching within the Biological Sciences and fulfillment of all duties as outlined in the University handbook. The candidate will demonstrate leadership in integrating faith and learning, effectively use instructional technology, and engage in scholarly activities, including overseeing undergraduate and graduate students in original research.
