Job Description | The Digital Experience Developer creates, administers, and implements digital content on AEA websites and other digital platforms, including the creation and build out of websites. This position supports major digital fundraising initiative, oversees creation of custom giving pages, and leads digital projects that support fundraising goals. This individual will manage all forms of content for use in digital projects and must be adept at AP style and be able to ensure web content is strategic and achieves desired outcomes. This role creates, edits, and optimizes image and graphic assets and must possess strong technical skills with the ability to use those skills with web accessibility and usability in mind. The Developer must be a team player, possess outstanding communication skills, be able to multitask and execute on multiple projects at once, and be able to build healthy cross-functional relationships.
Education and Experience | Bachelor’s degree in information technology, web development, or similar field. Candidates must have a demonstrable proficiency in HTML/HTML5, CSS/CSS3, JavaScript and PHP. Some experience with server-side coding, XML and database connectivity is required. Demonstrated proficiency using Mac or PC for web development. Some server administration experience and knowledge is preferred. Understanding of and proficiency in a CMS environment is required. Anthology Encompass and Drupal CMS preferred. Understanding and experience working with API (REST/SOAP/JSON) to analyze and transfer data from one platform to another is preferred. Experience working with Figma design platform (or equivalent) is required. Familiarity with campus products currently being used such as JIRA, Confluence etc. is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of WCAG (2.1 AA) standards and experience in related compliance. Experience working in environments that require adherence to stringent regulations/procedures. Experience working in higher education preferred. Minimum two years working with Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop. Experience working with version control systems (Git/GitHub). Experience with web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA). Experience with digital usability, AP Style and Google Analytics.
Skills and Knowledge | Excellent communication and organizational skills, both verbal and written. Ability to communicate corrections, determine desired intent and provide guidance to campus partners is crucial. Ability to provide timely responses to campus partners is critical, even after hours. Ability to evaluate, set priorities and execute on the fly. Be a self-starter and a creative and strategic thinker. High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are necessary. Ability to quickly maneuver in a fast-paced environment is essential. Ability to manage knowledge that has not been widely distributed carefully and keep it confidential. Ability to multitask, including coordinating multiple projects in addition to other daily duties is necessary. Able to work collaboratively but also work and troubleshoot independently. Strong, clear editing and proofreading skills for the web are essential. Preferred experience with digital usability, AP Style and Google Analytics. Proficient in developing instructions and documentation.
Responsibilities | Support the creation/ build of microsites for large fundraising/campaign initiatives as well as large events including but not limited to Syracuse Giving Day, Coming Back Together, Orange Central. Read/review, analyze and edit provided copy following AP Style and SU guidelines for improved user consumption. Using a variety of content management systems, lay out content to ensure optimal user experience and complying with WCAG (2.1 AA) standards as well as improving website performance, maintaining digital assets and ensuring University brand compliance. Assist with changes to secure giving forms, including updates to imagery, descriptions, confirmation emails, and funds. Lead medium scale digital projects including but not limited to school/college/unit CuseFunders and custom giving page initiatives, which will require partnering and collaborating with stakeholders across the institution. Oversee and execute multiple projects simultaneously. Make recommendations on content received for an engaging online presence, while also ensuring WCAG (2.1 AA) and University brand compliance. Work effectively under tight deadlines and changing priorities. Lead smaller scale digital projects including but not limited to school/college/unit CuseFunders and custom giving page initiatives, which will require partnering and collaborating with stakeholders across the institution. Oversee and execute multiple projects simultaneously. Make recommendations on content received for an engaging online presence, while also ensuring WCAG (2.1 AA) and University brand compliance. Work effectively under tight deadlines and changing priorities. Support digital performance and accessibility management by leading review of web accessibility compliance and assist with Google Analytics reporting. This includes coordinating and conducting monthly WCAG (2.1 AA) compliance audits of all websites in AEA portfolio to ensure adherence to accessibility standards, serving as resource to digital experience team for recommendations on WCAG compliance for projects, and generating monthly Google Analytics reports to track website performance metrics, user engagement, and digital campaign effectiveness, to assist team on translating data insights into actionable recommendations for stakeholders. Serve as a backup web server admin, including assisting with managing and resolving server and front-end dependency conflicts. Assist with Apache web server configuration and updates, including adding and updating redirect links. Serve as backup for processes that utilize APs and web services, including assisting with implementing backend support of third-party platforms that enhance or support donation and engagement experiences.
