Organization's Summary Statement:
The Office of Communications, in the A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland, seeks a Digital Media Coordinator to assist with the implementation of the communications team's strategic plan. The Coordinator plays an integral role in college-wide initiatives to strengthen and advance the Clark School's identity and reputation; promote and maintain a favorable perception among the School's general, academic, industry, and government audiences; and achieve the School's recruitment and partnership goals. 
The A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland  catalyzes high-quality research, innovation, and learning, preparing our students to create innovations that will address the 21st century Grand  Challenges (e.g., energy, environment, security, and human health) and  improve the human condition. The Clark School is dedicated to leading  and transforming the engineering discipline and profession, accelerating  entrepreneurship, and transforming research and learning activities into innovations that benefit millions.
 
Essential duties and responsibilities break into three categories: 
  • digital and social media management, including influencer and/or partnership development; 
  • editorial and multimedia content production (either directly or overseeing) as it relates to digital and social media; and 
  • internal coordination. 

The Coordinator is entrepreneurial in their work and readily collaborates with a variety of internal and external stakeholders in a complex, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
In this capacity, the Digital Media Coordinator will:
  • help conceptualize, create, and post social media content to Clark School channels, including photos and videos; 
  • serve as a secondary website content manager; 
  • maintain working knowledge of STEM and higher education (especially Big Ten engineering colleges) social media trends; and 
  • complete other duties and projects as assigned.  

Physical Demands: Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to traverse short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Preferences: 
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in social media coordination, communications, marketing and/or public relations
  • Experience creating successful social media campaigns with measurable outcomes that demonstrate impact.
  • Experience working with STEM content and/or experts and creating social media content related to science and/or engineering.
  • Experience identifying and cultivating social media influencer relationships and partnership opportunities.
  • Prior experience working in higher education and/or developing multimedia content for higher education audiences.
  • Skill in the capture and editing of video for social media

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One (1) year of professional communications or marketing experience.

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
