Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | The Marketing and Communications Department at the Darla Moore School of Business invites applications for a full-time director position. The Director of Marketing and Communications has direct responsibility for strategic marketing and communications at the Darla Moore School of Business (DMSB). The Director is responsible for development and delivery of overall DMSB marketing and communications message(s), across multiple channels and tactics, and in his/her responsibilities engages with a range of DMSB stakeholders and University of South Carolina (USC) marketing and communications professionals, as well as with external marketing-related service providers working with units and programs across the School.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience | Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree and 10+ years professional experience in marketing and marketing department leadership in industry and/or academic settings.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities | Client relations experience with the ability to function collaboratively with high accountability in service delivery to diverse internal clients and the ability to motivate key stakeholders to align with marketing and communication strategies and priorities.
Project and marketing process management and ability to prioritize across multiple high profile, high importance initiatives using effective planning, scheduling and communication tools.
Ability to meaningfully assess capabilities and needs to build effective marketing and communication programs and tactics at all levels across organizations.
Ability to build, motivate and lead teams to achieve marketing and communication objectives, while developing, enabling, and supporting individuals to deliver peak performance and grow professionally.
Proficiency in translating customer insights data into actionable strategies that drive student and prospective student engagement.
Strong knowledge of current marketing and communications strategies, technology tools and brand management.
Expertise in developing integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns including PPC campaigns, as well as social media marketing, content and AI search marketing, and email marketing campaign development and messaging.
Proven track record of working with senior leaders to identify and execute initiatives that build brand awareness and engagement and deliver organizational success.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with experience managing projects from concept to completion.
Job Duties
Job Duty | Reporting to the Dean, the Director of Marketing and Communications has direct responsibility for marketing communications at the Darla Moore School of Business (DMSB). In the execution of duties, the Director collaborates internally with the Dean’s Office, DMSB’s Graduate Division, with the school’s offices of Career Management, Alumni Engagement, and Development, with DMSB Centers, and with faculty and staff. The Director works with members of the USC marketing and communications staff, and with external service providers providing marketing services to units/programs at the school. Working with the internal team and the external service providers, the Director must build the Moore School brand by managing the external agency and leading inhouse work, supporting the development of print, digital, and multimedia campaigns and materials that convey both the DMSB brand, all within the framework of the overarching USC brand. In doing so, the Marketing Communications Director has the responsibility of ensuring brand compliance through oversight of all print and digital media including publications and promotional literature, paid digital advertising campaigns, email marketing campaigns, organic social media channels, and the school website to ensure that brand standards are met.

The generation of the DMSB marketing and communications budget should represent a compelling demonstration of sound investment to build local, national, and global awareness and appreciation of DMSB’s brand and portfolio of programs and activities.

The Director is also responsible for emergency communications in conjunction with the central USC Communications and Marketing Office, and assists in the development of Moore School policies in coordination with the Dean’s Office.
