 I. JOB OVERVIEW 
Job Description Summary:  | The Director of Conflict Education & Student Accountability (CESA) educates students, parents, and other members of the GW community regarding their role in maintaining a healthy and safe university community through their adherence to university policies and the law. The Director of the office is responsible for articulating and enforcing an approach to student conduct that protects the community, supports those affected by violations of community standards, and recognizes that a developmental response to inappropriate behavior is essential in a collegial setting. 

CESA is an office within Student Affairs and is directly responsible for the supervision and direction of CESA, overseeing academic and non-academic discipline for the institution. 

Responsibilities include:
Leads a team of approximately 5-7 professionals, including direct supervision of the Associate and Assistant Directors who, respectively, manage the day-to-day functions of academic and non-academic conduct caseloads. Oversees the review and processing of all referrals of alleged violations of the Code of Student Conduct and the Code of Academic Integrity, including referrals from the GW Police Department and external law enforcement entities, university faculty, staff, and students. Ensures that parties understand their rights, responsibilities, and options within university processes, that cases are resolved in a manner consistent with the institution’s goals, and communicates outcomes and appeal processes to students and their families. Leads training of the CESA team, including students, faculty, and staff members of the university Integrity and Conduct Council.  Collaborate with key university partners to lead CESA’s efforts in conflict management, including mediation, restorative practices, constructive dialogue facilitation, and conflict coaching.  These efforts are focused on helping students manage conflict to enhance their learning experience.  Maintains Maxient, the campus conduct record-keeping system. Ensures student conduct files are secured and maintained in accordance with university policies and applicable laws. Works in conjunction with the appropriate university entities in implementing the Clery Act, FERPA, Title VI, Title IX, the Drug-Free Schools Act, the Higher Education Act, and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Maintains working relationships with campus partners, including, but not limited to: the Office of the Provost; GW Police Department; Title IX Office; Office of Access and Opportunity; Office of General Counsel; academic schools and programs; and partners within the Division for Student Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications:  | Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:   
Preferred Qualifications:  | Experience working in a diverse, fast-paced higher education environment. A history of resolving interpersonal conflicts and guiding those who need assistance. Extensive experience working with university public safety, student counseling, alcohol and other drug educators and residence life staff. Excellent administrative, interpersonal and communication skills. A willingness to embrace a data driven approach to strategically enhancing the work of the office. Experience mentoring and supervising others. Knowledge of applicable laws, including, but not limited to: the Clery Act, FERPA, Title VI, Title IX, the Drug-Free Schools Act, the Higher Education Act, and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Strong written and oral communication skills. Experience designing and implementing training for diverse audiences. An advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g. higher education, conflict resolution, social work, the law, etc.)
