The Director of Government Affairs and State Initiatives reports to the Vice President of Government Affairs and is primarily responsible for developing, executing, and sustaining a state-based strategy that results in state funding, policy, and accountability incentives to support the sale of Savvas Outlier and Savvas CTE products at the state, district, and school level.
Primary Responsibilities
- Implement government affairs strategies to influence state policies and regulations that create opportunities to increase sales of Savvas Outlier and CTE products.
- Engage state education agency leadership to promote the inclusion of Savvas Outlier and CTE products as allowable expenses and fundable options in state ESSA Title IV-A and Perkins/Workforce CTE plans. This entails extensive travel.
- Launch Savvas Outlier and CTE pilots in five states by building strategic partnerships with governors, key legislative leaders, state education and/or Workforce agency heads.
- Build and maintain relationships with key government officials, legislators, and advocacy stakeholders at the state level and local level.
- Lead cross-divisional collaboration to align government affairs initiatives with company objectives.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments at the state level and provide timely updates to the senior leadership team.
- Manage projects related to government affairs and state initiatives, ensuring timely completion and successful outcomes.
- Represent the company at state-level meetings, conferences, and events to advocate for our interests and initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop advocacy campaigns and materials to support government affairs efforts.
- Track and analyze key metrics to measure the impact of government affairs initiatives and adjust strategies as needed.
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Assist with Special Projects as assigned by the Vice President of Government Affairs.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- 10 years of government relations experience with a focus on developing, executing, and sustaining successful multi-agency state initiatives is required.
- Proven experience in planning and managing activities that help the organization achieve its goals by coordinating cross-divisional efforts and executing programs closely aligned with corporate strategy.
- Experience in Government Affairs including local, state, and national elected and appointed officials, department of education staff, and key advocacy partners.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to handle a high volume of work in a short period, handle multiple priorities simultaneously, and operate in a demanding work environment is important.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with the proven ability to analyze complex issues within the education sector and develop effective state legislative and rulemaking strategies.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Other Requirements
- Extensive overnight travel is required.
