Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Experience in learning and development, including leadership experience in healthcare or health plan setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in instructional design, adult learning principles, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness.

Sentara Health is seeking a Director, Learning.
As a key member of the Talent Management team, the Director of Learning will collaborate with healthcare and health plan leaders, clinical and operational subject matter experts, and internal training teams to design and deliver impactful, high-quality learning experiences that support a culture of excellence, compassion, and compliance.
This role leads the team responsible for enterprise-wide colleague development programs, including leadership development, high-potential programs, and role-based learning for individual contributors, people leaders, and senior executives across ambulatory, acute/post-acute, corporate, and health plan settings.
The Director of Learning partners with business units to address operational learning needs and regulatory requirements, using data and outcomes-based insights to measure impact, improve effectiveness, and ensure alignment with organizational goals and industry standards.
In addition, the Director plays a critical role in advancing a culture of belonging and growth through inclusive, engaging learning experiences that reflect our mission to serve members, patients, and communities.
In collaboration with other Talent teams, this role also leads learning-related change management efforts—supporting healthcare and health plan leaders in navigating change, communicating effectively, reducing resistance, and driving successful adoption of new systems, processes, and care models.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading enterprise learning initiatives in complex, matrixed healthcare systems.
- Proven ability to use data and learning analytics to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Strong interpersonal, consulting, and communication skills, with the ability to influence leaders at all levels.
- Familiarity with healthcare industry regulations, quality programs, and payer/provider dynamics.
- Change management certification (e.g., Prosci) or experience leading change initiatives preferred.
