Job Description:

Enterprise Technology Office (ET) is looking for dynamic individuals to join our Operations Center Service Team. This position is critical to the success of Arizona State University.
The Director, Network Operations Center, under administrative direction, performs work of considerable complexity in leading the strategy, operations, and continuous improvement of ASU's Network Operations Center (NOC). The NOC Director oversees the staff, tools, processes, and infrastructure that enable 24/7 monitoring, incident response, and operational visibility for enterprise systems and services. This role collaborates with technical and business leaders to ensure operational excellence, service reliability, and alignment with enterprise IT and security priorities.
The Enterprise Technology Office (ET) helps ASU create and maintain innovative technology solutions and services that advance learning and discovery at the University and is at the forefront of developing IT platforms and tools that add value to the student experience. As with everyone in the ET family, culture and communications are core responsibilities in this role.
Position Salary:$120,000- $131,750.00 per year; depends upon experience
Essential Duties:
- Leads the planning, recruitment, development, and evaluation of NOC personnel, overseeing hiring, training, shift coverage, and performance management.
- Responsible for the 24x7 monitoring operations of ASU's networks, critical infrastructure, and IT services, ensuring rapid incident detection, triage, escalation, and resolution.
- Manages the suite of NOC tools, including monitoring, alerting, observability platforms, and dashboards, guiding: tool selection, integration, ongoing optimization
- Develops and enforces incident management protocols, ensuring effective communication during events and conducting post-incident reviews to drive improvements.
- In collaboration with enterprise IT teams, such as networking, cloud, systems, security, and applications, enhances: operational visibility, automation, service health metrics
- Leads the NOC's involvement in ITIL-based service management processes, including: incident, problem, change, and event management
- Coordinates with Facilities and data center teams to monitor environmental and power systems supporting ASU's infrastructure.
- Partners with senior leadership to define the future direction of the NOC, establishing operational policies and driving maturity in capabilities.
- Formulates and manages the NOC's budget, allocating resources and representing the NOC in: executive-level incident bridges and cross-functional planning initiatives
- Provides operational reporting and dashboarding for stakeholders and leadership.
- Ensures the technical growth of the NOC team through: training and mentorship and fostering a culture of operational excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Leverage AI in routine tasks and contribute ideas for using AI to improve the unit's efficiency and overall performance.
- Take responsibility for fostering a positive culture, upholding organizational values, and championing engagement in all its forms.
- Collaborate across teams and actively participate in ET/ASU events and programs.
Desired Qualifications:
- Evidence of current employment in an Arizona Board of Regents Organization; ASU, U of A, or NAU.
- Demonstrated experience leading a 24x7 Network Operations Center or IT Operations team.
- Knowledge of ITSM frameworks and experience managing Incident, Problem, Change, and Event Management processes.
- Proficiency with enterprise monitoring, observability, and automation platforms (e.g., LogicMonitor, DataDog, Nagios).
- Strong understanding of network architecture, protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, SNMP), and infrastructure components (switches, firewalls, wireless, power/environmental systems).
- Experience developing NOC metrics, dashboards, and KPIs for operational insight.
- Knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices, with a focus on coaching, team development, and high-performing culture.
- Proven ability to manage operational budgets and resource planning.
- Skill in written and verbal communication, executive briefing, and incident documentation.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional technical teams and external vendors.
- Demonstrated ability to model empathy, compassion, and emotional intelligence.

Working Environment:
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%).
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (15%).
- Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
