Position Summary Information
Summary | Directly oversees the University Student Success Coaching Program. Manages professional and administrative staff in support of effective one-stop student services. Evaluates training, workflow, productivity, programming, and communications in support of meaningful assistance to students and collaboration with campus partners. Incorporates the findings of performance and student learning outcomes into program enhancements and meets these ends through the following duties and responsibilities. Position qualifies to work remotely subject to CBU Telecommuting policy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities | Other duties may be assigned. Recruit, develop, direct, and coordinate professional and administrative staff. Develop, audit, and refine business processes in support of a one-stop student coaching model in support of campus-based and remote-learning students. Develop and implement a quantitative and qualitative system to assess Student Success Coach communication, productivity, and effectiveness. Prepare and monitor department budget under the direction of the Dean of Student Success. Assess and manage cluster-based caseloads and schedules to foster optimal levels support among undergraduate and graduate students and their Success Coaches. Direct and coordinate with staff responsible for development, maintenance, and publication of internal and external resources in support of accurate and consistent service delivery. Direct and coordinate with staff responsible with planning and execution of University, College, School and department-sponsored events. Direct and coordinate with staff responsible with program assessment and review. Adjust service approaches or modalities as needed to ensure efficient and effective delivery of one-stop support services. Facilitate communication between students and other student-facing departments (Student Accounts, Financial Aid, and University Registrar). In coordination with the Dean of Access and Retention, track continuing student enrollment including melt reasons, stop-out activities, and potential candidates for re-entry. Represent, or assign representation to, university committees, including Curriculum, Admission and Retention, and/or Enrollment Management. Exercise professional judgment in facilitating the resolution of concerns from students, staff, faculty and administrative offices. Assess level and frequency of communication between professional staff and senior faculty on curriculum, course needs, resource development, appreciative opportunities, and pre-professional preparation. Model a collaborative environment within the office and across the University. Assist with special projects as requested by the University.
Supervisory Responsibilities | Directly supervises employees within Academic Advising and Student Success Coaching. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University’s policies and applicable laws procedures. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Ability to build rapport with students through remote media. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects. Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body. Strong organizational skills and detail oriented. Excellent telephone courtesy, knowledge, and experience. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; and requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard or other office equipment. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment, with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards.
Education and/or Experience | Master’s degree from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience as an academic advisor in a higher education setting is desirable.
