Description of Work
The Director of Academic Advising plays a critical leadership role in a team of professionals integrating recruitment, academic advising, and career development. The Director hires, trains, and supervises Academic Advisors reporting through the Dean’s Office, including those housed in and out of the center. Identifies unit goals and priorities, and leads professional development efforts for staff. Priority will be given to candidates developing advising services and programs which improve the retention rate from first to second year and the graduation rate. Assesses quality of advising practice for CAS students including prospective, current, transfer, and returning students, and makes suggestions for improved service. Participates in overall student success strategies. Collaborates with multiple units across campus including other advising offices and student services partners.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree plus 7 years of professional experience in higher education, including at least three years of academic advising or related 1:1 direct student contact experience.
  • Ability to supervise professional staff, advising programs, and processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student information systems as it relates to academic advising.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically map and analyze business processes to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to form collaborative relationships with other units on campus.
  • Strong writing skills and experience presenting to the public.

The following qualifications are preferred, but not required:
  • Background in liberal arts.
  • Ability to communicate the value of a liberal arts education.
  • Demonstrated positive impact in professional development of staff.
